I'm usually a malt man, but having run out,...hic, fancy a change...
preferably one I can get off the shelf at the local store as oppose to some quirky expensive online offering...that I may end up falling in love with!
I mixed Laphroaig with JD Honey at a bar the other week and that was pretty special, but that means me buying two bottles and a decanter?

Bulleit is quite good and not too hideously priced. Likewise Buffalo Trace.
Be aware that there a whisky [s]snobs[/s] aficionados on here who will view mixing Laphroig with anything other than pure Scottish spring water as the ultimate in heresy. Lock your doors tonight...

they actually did this at Laphriog live in NYC the other week, and the Master Distiller from Laphroig, (Mc somebody, rosy cheeks)loved it!
They used Jim Beam Honey though because its owned by the same company.

All I'll say is, I didn't pay for it. It's not what you might call cheap. Or easy to find......
I had a bottle of bourbon from Aldi t'other day. Can't remember what it we called but, you know what? It was alright! £12. Twelve quid!
Makers Mark is good as above, buffalo trace is a bit sweeter and my current favorite is woodford reserve which is sweeter again.

Woodford reserve is a tasty drop, and it's readily available at waitrose.

I generally go for Makers Mark.
Buffalo Trace is a slightly cheaper alternative.
Last week Asda had Woodford Reserve for around £22 so I'm currently working through that.
I consider myself reserved, so...looks like braving Asda, cheers all.
gentleman jack is a nice oaky alternative.
Tap357 is fab, laced with maple syrup.
Woodford is nice but reminds me of a more Scottish whiskey .
Willets is nice.
Makers mark is ok but a ordinary.
Jim Beam black label is pretty decent and in your price range.
My stepson always buys me a bottle of various Kentucky bourbon whiskeys each time he makes a business trip to the area. Some of them are special reserve, small batch whiskies and very expensive. At the end of the day, I still much prefer Jack Daniels Old No. 7 sour mash whiskey to any of the Kentucky bourbons, no matter the price (and picked up a 750 ml bottle of Jack today for $17.00)

Cheap scotch whiskey was the first thing I ever got drunk on. Like, in a right mess aged 11. Hence I couldn't touch whiskey for years. Bourbon got me back into it in my early 30's. +1 for Makers Mark, Woodford Reserve and Bullitt (sp). A knowledgeable friend has been slowly getting me into the single-malts.
