as the title says, been re-introducing myself to rap and hip-hop and once again enjoying Beastie Boys, MF Doom and Quasimoto.

Anyone like to recommend their faves?

and before anyone comes back with some good wrap:

Funny, I've just got passionately back into hip-hop 😀

J Dilla is (was) incredible
Black Milk, current fave
Madlib
Phat Kat (Ronnie Cash)
Check out the Dangerdoom collaboration album (MF DOOM+Dangermouse)
Mad Villain
Guilty Simpson

Type in any of the above into lastfm.com and it'll play you plenty of connected artists; that's how I found some of them. The Detroit hip hop scene seems pretty damn good at the moment 😈

Haven't seen DJ Shadow mentioned yet, but he's more about the decks than the rap.... Bit of Peanutbutter Wolf is good. For full on comedy hardcore, you can't go wrong with The Gravediggaz (featuring Rza of Wu-Tang fame). Failing all that, hit up a bit of Ice Cube.

A sample of the Gravediggaz... Hilarious, but so very good 😀

You'll have to imagine the massive bass unless you're listening on a decent system.

Oh! And it gets better!

La Haine soundtrack is a good taster for French Hip-hop

Agreed, also agreed re Solaar and Saian Supa Crew.

However, when talking French, you have to seek out some IAM. I'd recommend "Ombre est Lumière", especially if you can track down the 2 disc version.

Fans of golden era hip hop like Ultramagnetic MCs, Eric B & Rakim, Big Daddy Kane et al need to head over to Sloppy White's website and download his three amazing mix CDs:

http://www.sloppywhite.com/

His mixes make me wonder why people get paid to make identikit compilations of the same few tunes, while bangers like this languish in obscurity:

Most of what I was going to say has been mentioned but...

If you like DOOM/Quas, obviously Madvillainy, Dangerdoom, The Unseen, The Further Adventures of Lord Quas.

Mos Def, Talib Kweli. As a pair (Blackstar) and individually.

Wu Tang Clan, 36 Chambers is one of my favourite ever albums, just amazing. Also check out Ghostface's Supreme Clientele and Apollo Kids. Raekwon (and Ghost's) Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is good too.

Liking M.E.D. at the moment, in fact check out Stones Throw Records, loads of good stuff there.

Jay-Z, The Black Album needs a mention.

Kanye West, a lot of people don't like him, but I can pretty much listen to all of it, College Dropout and My Beautful Dark Twisted Fantasy especially.

Wow, long post.

Always makes me feel good, tho not exactly similar to what you've listed.

I like Dj Signify - Sleep No More, Boom Bip and a few other Lex releases.

Am I mad or blind, but have we got through a full page without anyone suggesting:

NWA - Staight Outta Compton
Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back
- Fear Of A Black Planet

I think PE and NWA are going to be familiar to most, the good thing about threads like this is they encourage you to check out stuff you've not heard before.

Just remembered a hip hop mix of quite accessible stuff that I did a few months back.

http://soundcloud.com/rhubarbhoof/5-thumbs-of-death

Haven't put a tracklist because I'm a bit paranoid about being sued, but it includes Lootpack, KMD, MF Doom, Mr Lif, The Beatnuts, Main Source Diamond D, Showbiz and AG and a few funk tracks for good measure.
