Spending a lot of time on the sofa looking after little one. Thinking I used to enjoy wasting many hours on civilisation, what games are out now worth a look? Must be able to pause or save which means real time stuff is out. Completely out of touch with what is now available.

Laptop is a newish Lenovo z50, no idea in spec but would hope it should be able to cope with most things

Still Civilisation! (I didn't take to Civ 5, Civ 4 with the Beyond the Sword expansion is fantastic though and should be cheap now

Galactic Civilizations 3, like Civ but on a galaxy scale.
XCOM.

Civ 3, runs on my Windows 7 laptop, all apart from the opening video which oddly won't run on the onboard graphics card as it requires some piddly small dedicated card!

Xcom looks pretty good.

And preferably it to be playable from a tracker pad

XCOM is ace. Gets a wee bit grindy at times but when it's good, it's really good. Lots of ohshit moments.

It's only £6.24 from Steam just now for the complete pack (which weirdly is cheaper than the expansion alone)

XCOM is very good. It's also... a challenge, shall we say. You need to pay attention.

Do you have a link to the complete pack? For £6 it's worth a punt. I take it it downloads over the net or is it hosted?

I actually just bought the entire pack, just to get the expansion, even though I already own the game. Economics.
