Just about to update my Love Film list so they can carry on sending me quality Fillums, and so keep me in my rightful place. Welded to the sofa, Homer Simpson Style, with a beer in my hand, scratching my arse and farting. What a vision that is for you all to savour. I'd be out on my bike more but it keeps raining. I suspect that's due to continue

Anyway... recommend me something you've enjoyed recently please. Any genre acceptable. Exploding helicopters, zombies or Swedish noire. Anythings fair game. Last ones we've had were Let the Right One In (proper one, not your Holywood remake nonsense) and No Country for Old Men

GO!!!.....

I've got City of God on DVD. Its utter genius. As is Sexy Beast. We're on the right lines here then. Keep em coming! 😀

Oh... and I can get TV series box sets from Love Film too, so lets throw that one open as well

Black Sheep.

Not quite a stuffed goat on wheels film, but close. I thought it even better than ghostbusters, and that's saying something.

Enjoyed all of these lately (or the last couple of months):

Salt - she kills, then kills some more, ace.
Despicable me - very good fun to watch, vs megamind which was poor
Skyline - totally slagged everywhere but I throughly enjoyed it. Brain dead fodder to be fair, aliens and screaming people are ace
Battlefield Los Angeles - see above but as a Black hawk down remake.
How to train your dragon - good fun, nothing earth shattering
Red - Old now, but have you seen the cast?
The A-Team - Again quite old but a remake that works well IMO.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish 2009) - Very dark, so dark I'm struggling to start the 2nd film
Unknown - S'ok, not as good as Taken

Currently half way through 22 Bullets.. seems ok (dodgy subtitles though on my copy)

EDIT: Oh did love the True Grit remake too..

Also Dead Alive. Fun zombie gore fest. Top scene = bloke with flymo strapped to his chest running at a sea of zombies. Top quote from a priest: "kick ass for the lord".

Bloodydisgusting.com liked it too.

127 hours (to be a bit more current).

First film I've seen for a long time that actually made me half-cover my eyes and go "Eeeeewww...".

Bagpuss: there's a half naked Haley Bennett in it. And if that doesn't work then maybe mention Hugh gets to shake his tooshie... 😉

Let me dispel a proliferating myth.

Un Prophet is not brilliant. It is boring. SO dull that I cannot be arsed deconstructing it to justify my comment. Binners - it's 155mins of paint drying - albeit French paint.

I will give a recommendation: Funny Games. The German original or Hollywood re-do. They are both excellent.

Drew Barrymore?

Chick flick: always, Audrey hepburns last film, great cast. I almost cracked a tear out. Almost, it's that good.
Leon, Leon, Leon.
Run lola run in german if they have it. Sorta like their trainspotting but without so much drugs, lots of running tho..
That is all, for now.

If you can do subtitles the I thouroughly recommend "Black Cat, White Cat". Very bizarre, very funny. I got it from LoveFilm because the same director, Emir Kusturica, made the excellent "Life is a Miracle" which a friend persauded me to watch - also excellent.

If you want something completely different I highly recommend "Lebanon".

It is an Israeli film set in 1982, and shot all from the inside of a tank. Clearly based on a play ?? I was riveted.

And I think it won the Venice prize, so it's not just me...

Opinion is a funny thing. In my opinion, this film looks shit.

Rec 1 and rec 2 (The spanish original ones)

Agree with Rec 1 but Rec 2 was shite imo! The first one's one of my favourite horror type films, great atmosphere.

Something very different perhaps... A bit of intellectual stimulation. Not a movie, not a documentary, although it takes place amongst real events. Its something lyrical in between the two, a bit like watching a book.

"Robinson in Ruins" comes out this week on Doovd

its the sequel to "Robinson in Space"

which is the sequel to "London"

London is breath takingly good, all the more so in the way whole swathes of life 20 years ago that you'd totally forgotten come crashing back at you. its fab.

My Life As A Dog (Swedish)
Show Me Love (Swedish - original title 'F***ing Amal')

La Haine (was thinking of buying a copy of this to watch again but Amazon reviews suggest the subtitle graphics are not very clear)

Another vote for Run Lola Run. Don't watch when intoxicated, the frenetic opening credits made me heave :0

Just watched Zombieland. Excellent brain-off entertainment.

To slow the pace down (a lot) Snow Falling On Cedars and A Midnight Clear are VERY good.

Round it off with Pan's Labyrinth, for a look at how films should be.

Once were warriors.
Very compelling film dealing with fairly harsh issues.
Man bites Dog.
Very black humour surrounding a serial killer.
