Hi I need a large messenger bag, big enough for a lever arch A4 folder and small laptop, I thought about getting a Pakuma Choroka K1, anyone got one of these ? or recommend anything else ?

cheers

Oh dear.. Unfortunately for you, it appears most people would probably rather die than be seen recommending messenger bags on STW - how to lose all cred in an instant.

I, for the other hand, don't care - so I'll recommend one. North Face do a spectacularly gorgeous bag, which comes in a mega-hardcore-waterproof version too.. (it looks great in red if you can find one)

see: http://www.asos.com/The-North-Face/The-North-Face-Base-Camp-Messenger-Bag/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=385244

for some ideas..

Cred? What cred?

I can recommend Chrome messenger bags - I had a Metropolis (sp?) - not cheap but fully waterproof 'floating' inner, nice and comfy, exceptionally well-made and will swallow a LOT of kit (laptop, spare set of clothes etc etc etc). It doesn't flap about if lightly loaded either - decent compression straps etc.

I ended up selling it for not a great deal less than I paid so it's not going to be too much of a hit to the wallet if you buy one and don't get on with it / decide you want something different (I went to an Ergon as my commute lengthened and I wanted one bag for on and off-road, otherwise I'd still have it).

i've had a timbuk2 bag for about six years, did 3 years daily commuting with it in all weathers and it's still going strong today, can heartily reccommend them, charliethebikemonger sells them i think

I've been through a fair number of courier bags over the past 15 years and I've now settled on a Bagaboo. Loads of options and they do custom design work too. The one below is mine.

Got a Pakuma Choroka K1 here - very verstaile - good pocket for a alptop and quite a bit of space for paperwork & lunch on top of that - the only crticism is that it all gets bloody heavy when loaded up to it's max....

I second Timbuk2 - here's mine

I love it, its a lot bigger than it looks on the website and it took my 17 inch laptop and a load of other stuff, although the medium is more suited to a 15inch

And i love messenger bags, although i also love fixies (burn him, he's a witch 😈 )

Timbuk2 vote here, bought one when I was a courier many moons ago, and although it doesn't get used that frequently these days, is certainly made to last.

I also have a Crumpler laptop bag, which is very well featured, so they get a good vote too.

Cheers, Rich

my crumpler bag is about 3 years old now and doesn't have a mark on it, despite being treated with vast quantities of contempt 🙂

it's almost irritatingly well put together as i keep hanckering after something new, but can't justify it!
