Contracting at the moment and lodging with a friend 3 nights a week. I need a receipt for expenses, is it as simple as my friend writing out a receipt?

As long as he is declaring it as income that is fine.

Realistically, one of you is going to have to write it off and not claim it.

That's all you need.

Whether he declares it or not is up to him, not you.

If lodging he doesnt have to declare income if below the threshhold.

All he needs to do is give you a reciept.

No men involved ๐Ÿ˜€

It's well below the threshold under the rent a room scheme so no issues there, and only likely to be for 12 weeks anyhow.

And of course has he told his insurance and mortgage that he has a lodger?

And then of course I guess you are defrauding your employer and inland revenue, as your mate isnt actually charging you anything?

I'm doing contract work, paying my own accommodation not claiming it from anyone but I can offset this cost against tax due hence the need for a receipt.

Paying by bank transfer but apparently a written receipt proves the payment but evidence of bank transfer doesn't.

Why would you assume that from what he said?
