Just back from a week's camping in Cornwall, had a lovely time as ever but we're now looking for something better than a double air bed so your recommendations please..
We just got an Intex raised air bed for camping duties while my Wife is pregnant.
Its bloody brilliant, albeit very bulky whether deflated or inflated. Took over the bedroom of our Orchy 600 tent!
Inflates itself and deflates itself and very comfy.

My quick answer is - Vango 7.5cm - either two singles or a double. Packs large but sleeps comfy and warm.
These thermarest type mats, how comfy are they? MsD won't tolerate being uncomfy in the slightest so never tried them.
Currently have a double airbed covered in a blanket, then a double sleeping bag then a duvet - she feels the cold!
Like the idea of the Coleman double celled bed as I need a firmer bed.
That intex bed, what powers the pump?
If you want a bed rather than airbed the Oztent King Goanna is great (if pricy option;

Bought one of these. Brilliant bed so easy to put up and it's made with proper metal legs. I sometimes put a self inflating mat on top for super comfy sleeping. It's available from other higher end brands but carries a larger price tag.

Erm, electric hook-up.... 😳
It's 240v, although you can apparently use a manual pump if you have no power. Not that I'd wanna pump it up - it would take ages. Takes about 3.5 mins to pump up with the built in pump.
Does it run off a car adapter?
Alpkit Dozer or Vango 7.5

Nope it's 240v AC so you would need a suitable inverter to run it from a car. You might be able to get 12v versions, but I haven't looked.
Could always get one of these pumps:
and see the bed below in the 'frequently bought together' bit.
Or a bed like this to go with it.
Useful for guests at home too...
Two singles are so much better than a double. Two airbeds + double elasticated shet to hold them together + light duvet underneath you + duvet over the top - job done. 🙂
I have a pair of these up for grabs if you are near Southampton

Very comfortable and put up or away in seconds. If you are not near Southampton they are cheap in Go Outdoors

That's what we use for glamping too. It is so much better than cheap air beds, almost as comfortable as our bed at home.

I was going to get one of those beds, until I saw some ex-military folding beds at Wilderness Gathering today, being sold by these guys: armysales.co.uk
Alloy legs and frame with nylon 'bed', plus carrier bag, for £30. Weighs 8Kg, so you won't be hiking with it, but fine in a car.
It's actually about the same size as my packed tent, and very rigid and solid.
This is what they look like http://armysales.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=6&product_id=143
This is a bit more expensive, because the material is an older, heavier canvas; mine is lighter nylon.
They had another there for £25, without the carrying bag.
