We put an old bird box up last autumn, not really expecting it to be used to be honest, and the other day I spotted a tit of some kind (Great tit I think) popping in. Since then there's been a lot more visits noted by both of us and this morning I saw food (Caterpillars) being carried in and from the back door I could hear chicks cheeping as they were fed!

The box is only 10ft from the kitchen window, so I'm trying to stay away as much as possible, but it's tricky. The lawn can wait a week or two now....

😀

If you can, try and get some small (live) mealworms from a pet shop. we did it last year and was really suprised how many other birds were nesting nearby which we didn't know about.

We put a box up about 4 years ago and we've had nothing! Might move it further away from the house.... its a Habitat one as well. Some birds have no taste!

no pfft!. Poddy does! She's got birdboxes in the garden, and sits in the conservatory eyeing 'em up. Got books and lists and all sorts!

We put up a nest box and think we may have had some 'Tits' nesting but a sparrow hawk picked one of them off last weekend. He sat for about 15minutes and then just swooped. Was quite awesome to see.

PeterPoddy to Kevevs:

'Come in Kevevs yer teas ready and have you got clean pants on and why's your room still a mess? There'll be no Oedipus action for you young man if you don't buck your ideas up....'

Something like that? 🙂

Ha.

That reminds me.

There's this programme that the wife likes about money saving tips around the household. Usually it's just average bints telling you to save your jars or make pillow case out of mouldy curtains.

Subtitles were on as I'm deaf sometimes and I was watching it with her and we went to see a little old lady to get her tips.

The presenter said, "This is Joyce, she has some fantastic tips"...the subtitles were "This is Joyce, she has some fantastic tits".

I laughed for ages...although my wife didn't find it as funny.

How come everyone else can type what type of bird it is and I can't? Odd.

Nothing quite like unexpectedly seeing tits and a bird's box in your garden.

I think perhaps "tit" (singular) is censored but "tits" (plural) isn't.

We had titmice in the garden (correct name) last year, it was so exciting.

Make sure the box is facing North, or at least out of the sun, those little chicks will end up roasted otherwise, and there's no meat on them at that age 🙂

Working at home today and managed to get a few pics of the parents carring food in. Still lots of (now louder) cheeping from within each time! 🙂

Lovely picture, but you need some bargeboard to tidy up those ends on the featheredge roof.
To be honest I'm surprised the tits were prepared to move in.

Roof is newish, it's a flat roof. Looks fine to me. 🙂 What's bargeboard?
I was very surprised they moved in myself as we only put it up last autumn.

Couple more:
They come and sit on the (Neighbours!!) fence to have a look round before they go inside.

Come on Pete; start a thread about yer ankle cos yer feeling down and are looking for a bit of sympathy, then we can all come and be incredibly heartless, insensitive and cruel, and turn it all into something for our amusement instead. 🙂

How about you start a thread explaining how you've become so fat that you broke your seatpost Elfie ?

No go on Pete; it'll be well funny!

Ernie; I really don't think the general public need to know about my incredible expanding gut.

Actually I've toned up a bit recently. Got heavier mind. I will still kick your arse up any hill though, Grizzlyface.

Even with a bike with a shopping basket on't front.

And sandals on.

How would you know ? You don't do any of that 'cycling up steep hills' stuff, do you ?

"Actually I've toned up a bit recently"

Yeah right.........so your seatpost snapped 'cause of all the punishment you were giving your bike - all them big ****-off kerbs what you get in Central London ?
