what i mean is a game that just leaves you with a warm glow after playing it (either from the story/gameplay/graphics or all of the previous).just something that made you go WOW! when you played it.
there are a few choices for me ico being one,but yesterday i played this on my friend's ps3 and was blown away by it 😀
he just handed me the controller and didn't say another word (he went for a smoke).
the game only gave the briefest of tips (controller buttons),then left me to work it out for myself.
i love games like this most of all.they just take you to a much more beautiful place for a short while 😀
what games would you add that made you feel that way?

Dear Esther is very marmite as an experience but you can't deny it's striking to look at
Shenmue.
Elite. Such a simple an immersive idea. Brilliant. I was 13 though, I think you have to be 13 to be really mad for computer games. Also, part of the experience with Elite was the fact that I had to get on my bmx and go round friends houses to dock their ships cos I had mad skilz. I lost a couple of friends to docking computers! I wonder what they are doing now.
Both newish batman games, made you have to think in a totally different way to be successful.

Ico and shadow of colossus HD on Ps3. Easily the most enjoyable 2 games on the ps2. Re-done in HD for you pleasure!
Shenmue
I remember playing Shenmue and Shenmue 2; on the Dreamcast, if memory serves! Wonderful game.
Few games have moved me more than FF7 did back in the day. It seemed to have everything; Good characters, hugely varied gameplay, interesting storyline, groundbreaking graphics... (actually, i lied about that last one...). I'll never forget that game. In fact i could still probably navigate my way around the ShinRa Building or the caves of Cosmo Canyon to this day.... Sad, i know.
The game that's captured my imagination more that any other in recent years is Portal.

I find that game to be great therapy after a stressful day.

Likewise shenmue got me through a stressful time at university. A very real escape.
Far Cry 2...I was new to this generation of gaming and was thrilled as 'I' wondered through the wild bush and disturbed the animals sending them scurrying around 'me'.
Half life 1 and 2, totally immersed in the game. I bought a pc off the back a ten minute go on half life. The various mods still get played online more than anything else too.
Far cry 3 for me at the moment. Such a good looking game that i can actually run on ultra settings on my 3-4 year old desktop.
Just taken a break from planeside 2. Has the potential to look out of this world. But you need to spend mega amounts on a desktop that can actually run it with all eye candy turned on.

Skyrim can be stunning (Halflife 3 can as well, but it's a bit too grey). But for that real sense of place, nothing beats Stalker with all the mods- it's not photo-realistic, but it [i]feels[/i] right, like you're entering a place in the game rather than it just being drawn around you. Wandering across the Zone as the sun rises, listening to the sounds and looking at the landscape and the jumbled ruins and the AAAARGH SNORKS! * * ****!
For music and story, it's 15 years on and still Final Fantasy 7 has never had a worthy challenger. It could even be quite beautiful, in its shonky square way.
At the time I thought this was a pretty as Avatar..
As soon as I saw the thread title I thought Limbo & Ico. Played a demo of Journey, didn't really get it.

Funny, lots of people say that about bicycles.
I think Okami is the best I can think of... fantastic game as well.
Black and White from 2001. It was wonderful to play and I'd love to see a new updated version of it.

botanicula and machinarium for me. I tried Eufloria after an earlier bencooper recommendation and although it is beautiful it just doesn't flow in the way the others do.
Homeworld and Limbo for different reasons, Bioshock is stunning to look at.
Currently playing NFS: Most Wanted. Lovely to sit and look at the city, never mind drive around it.
Legend of Zelda ocarina of time. Not graphically beautiful these days but. It always gives me a sense of warmth inside when I play it. The music in the game is awesome.
Elder Scrolls Oblivion, not started skyrim yet, but it has alot to live up to.
Fable 2
Half-Life amazing game.
Shadowman, brilliant story and very atmospheric.
Ok, so it's not really a game yet but, my word, how pretty is this.
Do yourself a favour and watch it fullscreen HD if your connection can support it.
Braid is a beautiful and deeply involving game while it lasts, which is no where near long enough.
The best thing about the Uncharted Games on the PS3 is the sightseeing.

Fantastic voice acting and dialogue, great story and characters, the brilliantly ridiculous "1 year later" transitions, especially Glotis' pimping of the ship.
I started replaying that a little while ago. Still a great game.

If you thought GTA series were groundbreaking, then playing Mafia would lift it into higher class of gaming. Sound, graphics, changing weather and driving antique rattling cars around beautifull city early in the morning...romance of gaming.
But you can't get lady of the night for business and pleasure like in GTA though.
