1+ for Kirkstile - I don't know what the accommodation is like but the food is ace as is the beer.

The Drunken Duck at Barngates, between Hawkshead and Ambleside.
The pub has it's own brewery on site.
Accommodation is very expensive, but not snooty. Book early for the restaurant. The DD will store your bikes in the boiler room if you ask nicely.

Lucy's, Fellinis or Priest Hole for posh food in Ambleside.

The Gables in Ambleside, really friendly, situated just on edge of town so really quiet but only 5 mins walk from the Priests Hole and a pint of Speckled Hen hhmhmmmmm
