Just tore my faithful old carpenters rear pocket on saddle and now the boss won't let me be seen public.
They are 15/16 years old and I bought them overseas.

Where can I get some proper new old style denim jeans that take an age to wear-in?

If you've got a fat arse, short legs, big thighs and small calves then Tesco's jeans are ideal.

Where do you live? I got some Levis last week from their store at the outlet mall in Ashford, Kent. £30, reduced from £75 😯

i've had lots of different brands over the years, more recently i've been impressed by Tommy Hilfiger, well made, great fit, nice detailing...

try TK maxx if you don't want to pay full price

You need decent selvage denim 13-15 oz.
Edwin, Lee 101, ROY, Ande Whale, Sugar Cane, iron heart, Tender Co. Albam, Fallow. To name a few.

A heavier denim will last a lot longer. Selvedge won't make any difference although they do look good. It really depends on budget, style, wash etc.

i don't 'worry' about much, certainly not a pair of jeans but find good selvage lasts longer. finding a good fit that suits you is paramount. (for me Edwin Nashville, slightly higher rise for 'middle aged' who like to keep their underpants out of view and enough thigh room for a cyclist)

I tried selvage denim but they lasted so long they weren't trendy after a few years.

Hey darcy YGM mate.
I like nudie jeans. The average joe fits my thighs without being massive on the waist. The hank reys are nice too, just a bit more tapered. I generally shop around on interwebz and get them on sale.
I like the fact that they're organic and fair trade too.

A.P.C. New Standards or Petit Standard for those with a slimmer (chicken) leg, otherwise Edwin Sen or Albam are really nice for the money.

Okinawa Japan.

That's why they call the material deokinawa.

Carhartt do good carpenter's jeans. Can be had for £23 from Daves of New York or for £40 on Ebay.

What, you mean not covered in spurious printed logos, pockets, rivets, and straps, etc?
One of the reasons I like Uniqlo Japan Denim, it's the total lack of any decoration at all, even the leather patch on the waistband only has a code letter/number in one corner.
Selvedge denim is now only made in Japan, to my knowledge, because they bought up all the old looms, when the market grew to the point that wider bolts of cloth were needed to get two or more pairs from the width.
It tends to be heavier weight, too, around 13/14oz.
Proper indigo dye, rather than chemical dye, makes the denim smell nice, and the fade is better, too.
It's really difficult getting the Uniqlo selvedge, though, or at least in my size, as I need a 34x34", instead of the usual 32x34" in other makes.

Not all of them. American made selvage denim:

Edwin or Hiut. The latter are made in Wales which is nice if you like that sort of thing.
