I know I was on about weather reporting the other day, but today's news from the city I grew up in made me feel bizarrely proud. Temperatures as low as -50. 8)

I haven't been back for 20-some-odd years, mind, but I am still glad I am originally from Winnipeg. We're a tough lot!

EDIT: Do be sure to watch the videos in the news report.

Funny that Winnipeg was founded by the French and the Orkney Scots, so your picture is quite apt, pp.

....and rightly so. The temperature in this office came dangerously close to falling below 19 degrees C whilst I posted that picture of somebody else.
If it wasn't for the hot bowl of porridge I'm currently eating I could have died of hypothermia.

That report says "windchills of -50C, looks like the real temp is -30C, still on the nippy side of things.

Isn't Winnipeg quite a long way from the arctic?

The term used was 'arctic weather'; not 'arctic'.

@whitestone: The windchill factor is always calculated as part of the weather report in parts of Canada, as it is a major factor in how long it takes exposed skin to freeze.

For example, if I had hockey practice at one of the outdoor rinks as a kid, and the temperature was -20, it went ahead; if, however, it was -20 with a windchill factor or 1500, then it was cancelled, as that was considered dangerous.

Environment Canada is reminding people to dress warm and in layers.

Well I'm not surprised that you're proud of the winter temperatures Winnipeg - I would be.

Can you just confirm that you are in fact God.........I've got a few things I'd like to ask.

It's a bit nippy down here in Croydon, any chance of a little bit of sunshine and a gentle southerly breeze?

I'd like to ask God why we can't have just a little bit of snow, just once or twice a winter..?

Don't bother asking Molgrips. I asked over a quarter of an hour ago for a little bit of sunshine and a gentle southerly breeze - still nothing.

He's such a tease.

But Mols, you've had snow less than 30 mins from your doorstep for the last week or so. it's currently snowing on the Brecons and looking to be around for the weekend

(admittedly not waist deep but that there is most definitely snow)

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, ernie. I was busy dealing with Donald Trump.

In any case, I'll see what I can do about Croydon, but you'll have to be patient; the folk in Twickenham always take precedence.

Yeah but it's not the same as sitting in your house watching it ๐Ÿ™‚

Will probably head up there at the weekends, go for a 'walk' with the kids.

No I believe crucifixion is the correct course of action when falsely accusing the Son of God of blasphemy.
