I always react- even if I take Antihistamines, anyone else?

I also notice that for a couple of days after the ride/bites I have flu-like systems. This has to be psychosomatic as how can midge bites etc basically floor you? No energy nothing.

No no Tics/Lymes etc. Without fail I react to Midge (and occasional Horse fly?) bites. Anyone else? Any Doc types can comment?

I get bright red marks which last a couple of weeks - no other effects, though.

Yes I react pretty badly. Antihistamine cream works quite well.

flu-like systems

perhaps drowsiness from anti-histamine tablet?

I come up in welts from bastard midge bites. I slather on anthisan and take an anti-histamine too.
Midges are proof there is no god -why would he (or she - said in a Stan/Loretta way) invent such a species??

I normally take an anti-drowsy one before the ride. Thats it (no more after). Same day I'm ok but the two days after I'm knocked out. Tried riding last night and I was pooped/achy/couldn't really move.

The bites raise up, then blister and become infected even if kept clean/don't scratch- this all happens within the day.

It seems to depend on what has done the biting with me. Midges don't seem to cause much reaction - a small red dot or at worst a little bit raised and itchy.

There is something out there though that bit me loads last year on one particular ride which caused large raised sores and I needed antibiotics to settle them. I suspect that was proper mozzies rather than midges.

I had this a few years ago- it was Horse flies. Two bites on my ankle and the infection tracked up my leg to the knee. Knocked me out for 6months.

I have pretty bad reaction to them too.

Midge bites turn into rather ugly yellow blisters and last a week to ten days before they heal completely.

No cold or flu type symptoms though - if I was having those symptoms I'd definitely get myself checked over.

Is the one on the right an early cameo by Audrey from Coronation Street?
