Hi,
I have a Dell Inspirion - basic model, with Vista. Doesn't get used much ......
Went to use it today and it wanted to update to SP2 - it has failed twice!
The laptop does run slow, so I'm wanting to roll it all the way back and start again. I don't have any discs and I don't need to keep anything that is on there - I can re-install stuff as I need it.
So how do I do it?
Cheers,
TBH if it's having trouble loading SP2 it sounds ike you've got problems, as SP3 has been out for ages! You could go into Programs> Accessories>System Restore, I'm not sure how far that lets you go back though

If you don't need to keep any stuff, including emails, when it prompts you to format the drive, do it. It'll make a huge difference, much better than just reinstalling the operating system and keeping the files.
Edit: Sorry, thats an HP system, but it'll be very similar for Dell.
Cheers Spooky - I looked a little further and Dell seems to be different with hitting f8 after the BIOS screen.
Anyone tell me what the BIOS screen is?
You're probably right Martin ....
Ta.
F12 or f10 on the dell mate. I can't remember for that one which one it is. Will load one time boot menu, select cd then press any key when prompted. Dell central here today!
Done - now installing 72 critical updates!
🙂
Plant, see if you can do the service pack upgrades first, not an expert but I'd bet a load of the critical updates will drop off the list once SP3 is installed 🙂
Too late ......... at least for this batch.
I'm in no rush, so I'll let it chug along.
