Anyone know of a nice hi-res display, 7-10" or so that could plug and play? Like the one you'd get on a tablet, say?

@robware - interesting but not cheap @ £200, surely it's easier just to buy a tablet ?

a tablet is not really a substitute for a Raspberry Pi.

Wouldn't you be better off buying a cheap LCD monitor? You can buy a new 19" for about £70. Second hand, they're practically given away.

Edit....sorry you wanted something smaller.

I don't want a big one, I want a small one.

This is a follow-on from my previous thread - I was thinking of a tablet but I realised that a Pi could be pretty cheap and I could probably add the motion sensors I would like to make it come on when we enter the room.

However the displays seem rather pricy - £140 for a Lilliput 10" job it seems.. although jon's link isn't bad. Could do with touch screen though I suppose.

People have been using cheap tablets as monitors though, which is an option.

^^^ that is a secondary touchscreen display that you plug into the IO port, I don't think it will work as a main monitor.

Economies of scale - they make/sell loads of "normal" size monitors so they are always going to be cheaper than a more specialised small one.

You could use a cheap tablet like you said - could you get one that will take an HDMI feed and function as a monitor? Otherwise you would have to use VNC to show the display from the Pi which could get complicated if you want it to turn itself on and off. (although of course you could have a similar problem with a TV/monitor due to HDMI handshaking)

EDIT: this looks ideal, if you can source one in the UK http://www.adafruit.com/products/1287

There are these people, who did a kickstarter campaign for an HDMI display:

Last I heard, they were finding out just how hard it is to make even what should be a relatively simple product.

Hmm.. yeah not bad, a bit low res but ok.

If I could get a tablet to auto-wake via an external sensor I might use one...
