Off topic and really random :

I've often wondered, why do the little white stone chips on pavements not go upto the edge where the kerb is? The always stop short .

Anyone know why ?

maybe it's so the hard of hearing can stay in the centre of the path?

We don;t have chips on pavements around here. Except outside the chippie on a Friday night.

They mask the edges with a bit of board when sprinkling them on.

I suspect it's to keep the edge good and stop water pentrating and freezing. If you make flapjacks with raisins the edge becomes weak.
