Where's @ernie, does anyone know, is he OK? Did @kramer have his mediation meeting, did it go Ok? is he OK? Has @tjagain had any more dates, did he wear that colour combo again...

Enquiring minds...

Has the world really gone to hell in a hand cart like Cressers predicted?

Is the Volvo still for sale?

Has Mark eaten his pants?

Has @tjagain had any more dates,

Nosy nosy

I have actually been dating the lass in question for 3 months now.  I did show the thread to her about my lovely jumper.  She laughed, said "told you so"  and said she is neither young nor a lady.  The jumper is stuck unloved in the back of my wardrobe.

Well, that's at least one result.

Are you still wearing it?

Because the forum would be filled with paging threads of no interest to the majority of people and making it difficult to find the scintillating politics threads...

It's a policy which predates my tenure so I'm not certain, but I expect it's a reactive rule to address something which was once a problem.  It's from a time before the existence of the PM function so I can imagine lots of public posts going "hey Geoff, where are my wheels, email me" to be irritating.

(in case it wasn't obvious though, my comment there was a joke)

I’ve got no “like” button as that’s a paid for feature 🙄 (as if making the place virtually unusable because of ads was not punishment enough). But “likes” the above 👆 post.

There should be a rule against that kind of thing...

I'm also slightly intrigued about the final reasons for Ernie's ban and is it a lifetime one or will he return.

Have to say though I not missing the boring argumentathons one bit though.

Do we know it's a ban? Much as I disliked the pointless arguments, and my tendency to get sucked into them, hope he is personally ok.

No, not really, I just assumed the speed of departure meant a ban. Likewise I hope it's as innocuous as that.

Can't help you with that one I'm afraid, it's the first I've heard of it.  Nothing sinister I hope.

I say these things should not be taken lightly, and STW staff should be aware of the harm such a ban(if permanent) can have on people who see STW a bit like home.

Sure he's a pain in the arse sometimes, but hell, so am i and half the f****** forum if we're really being honest

I'm pretty sure STW understands that and doesn't dish out oermanent bans lightly. Regardless, we make allowances for people's quirks in all groups and relationships, but if an individual can't or won't modify their behaviour, sometimes they need to be dropped for the good of the group.

From what some of the mods have said on here, seems long bans get issued as much for abusive interactions with mods than public behaviour on here.

That has happened in the past for sure, I've done it myself.  It would seem very unlike Ernie though, that's not his MO.

A permanent ban is a last resort.  It should only happen either for gross misconduct or if they've received a string of warnings / short bans and failed to modify their conduct.  In the latter case - well, in both cases really - it leaves the Moderators no other option.

Do we even know he's banned?  He could be on holiday for all I know.

A brief moderator statement of just facts with no further discussion entered into would be useful in such circumstances, to avoid such speculation.

I'm old enough to remember when The Prawn got banned.

And it turns out someone modded a link to a fairly innocent photo he posted to a different one.  2 girls 1 cup or similar.

Those were the days.

I have been in contact with Ernie - looks like a lifetime ban.  I'm unclear why

Note debate on mods decisions is a bannable offence

Well I hope it's not affecting his proper life too much and maybe your perspective of having some, er, 'time in the wilderness' can help him out TJ.

Damn, I'm genuinely sad to hear that.

We didn't share the same opinions all the time which is totally fine and though he could be tenacious in the political threads I never saw any malevolence there.

Yeah, sad to hear this news.

I'm also sorry to hear Ernie is on a perma ban.  He was certainly argumentative and "prolific" but he confined that to a handful of threads so it was easy to avoid if that wasn't your thing.  His views were (mostly) very different to mine but they seemed to be honestly held, well articulated and he occasionally made me question some of my own.  Other than discourse that was sometimes "robust", I never saw him say anything I'd have considered remotely ban-worthy.  Quite possible I may have missed something though? A shame, he came across as someone you'd enjoy a pint with even if you disagreed about stuff.
