I know the STW were generally aglow with delight when George Lamb was punted onto weekend breakfast. I admit I'm liking Lauren Laverne more as I get used to the differeing styles, BUT I cannot abide Andrew Collins in the afternoon slot.

I've never met the guy or seen his picture on t'web but i'm guessing his chin protrudes a fair way over his upper jaw - and not in a heroic lantern-jaw way like the heroes of Soviet Russia propanganda posters, more like a trainspotter from Dagenham. His voice gets on my wick and he absolutely will not stop going on about drumming for Cud in 1992.

I'm of the impression the lovely but sh1t Cerys is on maternity leave, so let's hope the baby pops out quick smart and mum is back at work promptly...

Hallelujah! ..until I made the mistake of putting the radio on on a Saturday morning...

Keaveney is fine for the job. He plays good music, but his chat is nothing to write home about.

Andrew Collins is slightly dull, but into music, and talks a lot about Northampton. I may be talking out of turn, having not been there, but I've always imagined it to be fairly dull place typical of the E Mids. And beofre anyone is offended, My great-great-great-grandad came from there so that's ok ๐Ÿ˜‰

Andrew collings is filling in until nemone comes back from having her baby. I prefer him to nemone personally.

I thought nemone (not great) had a baby, Cerys (whom I like) stepped in, Nemone left permanently, Cerys had a baby, and Andrew Collins is standing in.

I wouldn't worry, that's a pretty accurate description.

Forgot about Nemone - she's annoying too.

Want to listen to decent music, so cannot turn over to R1 as that goes without saying R2 too old and Daily Mail, middle England-centric, and commercial radio can kiss my hoop before I sit through two minutes of adverts for local flooring specialists and the like after every song.

I celebrated prematurely when George Lamb lost his slot; it only ever bothered me when I was on the road for work, now I have a Saturday lay-in and want to listen to A&J but instead have to listen to an hour of that c0ck ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

All I want a DJ to do is play a record, say what it is, put another one on and then shut the f*ck up.
Doesn't seem that complicated to me. ๐Ÿ™‚

Same here.

I assume that they had to fit him somewhere for the duration of his contract, although 3am on a Sunday morning would have suited more people.

If it's music you want then what about lastfm?

Internet radio isn't the same to me somehow, suppose I want some chat, but it all depends on whom is chatting...

Don't forget that 6Music is good overall though.

It fills the gap between the middle-aged cr*p that is daytime R2 and the teenage dross that is R1.

You can have even more of a lie in as Adam and Joe are no longer on 6 music as Joe is producing his 1st film so they are on a lengthy break.

They've gone???!!!

Fantastic! 6 music returns to our house at the weekends once more.

I'd like 6music to return to their early ethos of having presenters who are into music, rather than comics/celaaabrities and the music secondary to their ego.

I find the majority of DJs are highly irritating, I've learnt to switch off my ears to the meaningless drivel which falls out of their mouths like verbal diarrhoea and wait patiently for the music.

the only music the presenters choose is their free plays which is around 6 tracks in adam & joe's case.

Really? Please enlighten me.

I like my music, I just don't 'get' Adam 'n' Joe; I prefer music enthusiasts on, what I thought was, a music enthusiasts station - 6Music.

That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it - or am I an idiot-hole because my opinion is different to yours?

6music is a bit of a mixed bag really isn't it?

Some survivors of the wreckage of the late, great GLR (eg. Gideon Coe, Gary Crowley), a few professional northerners (Maconie, Marc Riley? That Keaveney dick), some indie-man's crumpet (Lauren, Cerys) and a few originals like (my favourite) Tom Robinson or wacky Adam and Joe.

Still a bit too white and middle class for my tastes, but did my ears decieve me or did they actually have Dangerous Dave Pearce doing Dance Anthems the other night?

That's a step in the right direction.

It's not that mixed though is it? Landfill indie in the daytime, alternative and leftfield stuff in the evenings.

Radio 1 is a lot better for new electronic music.

Like it ๐Ÿ™‚

IMO, the main problem with 6Music now is that where it used to be genuinely a bit leftfield (back in the day, when Phil Jupitus did breakfast) - like Radio 2's cooler brother - it's now more XFM-lite. I mean, they've lifted the DJs wholesale from there (apart from George Lamb, who clearly has some major dirt on someone senior in the BBC - the man doesn't even know a Lily Allen record FFS, and he supposedly 'discovered' her); they're lifting more and more of the playlist (minus the endless Foo Fighters and Chili Peppers) and it's just turning into unexceptional drivel in the main daytime slots. It has so much potential - I used to listen to Themetime radio hour every week, and Gideon Coe and Mark Riley are decent - but it's just going to pot.

Oh, and the 'BBC Sound of 2010' is driving me up the wall - it's an epic piece of BBC doublethink. Based on 'sound of 2009', it goes something like:
- speak to a bunch of record execs/ NME columnists and ask what they think will be big.
- rank in order, then claim as your own work.
- playlist chosen artists heavily
- express surprise when heavy BBC playlisting results in artist doing moderately well.
- Point to moderate success of artist as 'proof' that you were so prescient in your predictions
- rinse and repeat.

Love Jon Richardson and the Sat funk show.

Otherwise, like R4, there's good and bad...

Keaveney is ok until he opens his mouth which for a station called 6 music is far too much.

I find Steve Lamaqs sp? show to be ideal with limited chat just music but after 7:00pm the music can be hit and miss.

John Richardson is ideal for Sundays. Russel Howard was just smug and annoying. Jarvis Cocker should prove a good listen too.

GL is a grade A **** and not suited to the station at all. The bloke he replaced was no better for who stringing a sentence together was a major achievement.

Don't listen to daytime as I have to work

The lovely Cerys, who regularly takes records from her own collection to play, had her baby eight weeks early, so should be back around April. She is a permanent presenter, like Auntie La La, who also plays stuff from her own collection. I don't recognise the description 'indie landfill', there's so much variety, and most of the music played, as it's from small labels and up-and-coming bands, is, by definition Indie: dammit, Kylie was a ****ing indie artist, as she wasn't on a major label, as was Jason Donovan. As one poster making the comment also mentioned electro, then, frankly, you're in totally the wrong place; Radio 1 is probably going to be more to your liking.

6music constantly disappoints. The very fact we are discussing the DJs means they've got it wrong. There are countless BBC radio channels for chat and 'japes'.
Why can't there be one channel that just does good music, without the need for personalities to present it?

george lamb - although his persona and chat was not to everyones taste his music selection was second to none - i am gutted he has moved to the weekend.

gary crowley is a tool - andrew collins is just a bit boring. agree that the daytime playlists seem to be growing. they need to have dj's with more control. lammo, gideon coe and marc riley all have the right idea. guy garvey trumps the lot though.

jarvis should be interesting like him but if his show is anything like his djing (eotr anyone) will be some good some awful and lots of shit from sheffield!

So should 6music just be guitars and muso b******s?

Most of the best music around now doesn't really fit in the sort of traditional genres that radio stations work around.

6music needs to get with the programme or it'll wither and die just like GLR did.

I give credit to George Lamb though or maybe his sidekick who did know his music, probably him who did the music selection,in that at 1230pm everyday they played a classic old skool techno-dance tune,of the like of Laurent Garnier, richie hawtin,a guy called gerald etc etc,Now you would never ever ever!! hear that on any other radio sation at that time of day,

I love 6 music. You can tell no one really listens, as all the researchers are dead keen to reply to emails!

I like Keaveney and Adam & Joe, just a shame that Lamb moved to the weekend; I never listened to him during the week and now have to either get up late or shifty over to Planet Rock or Amazing if I'm up earlier than 10.

I normally just prefer music (so R3 weekday mornings on the way to work - mostly music)
