Smoked for 34 yrs since trying first fag at Scouts camp. Tried vaping, don't really get on with it, seems a faff and result isn't so great (for me)

Nearly kicked it before, about 4 yrs ago, using the book 'The Nicotine Trick'. Locked self in room and read whole thing cover to cover. Was very effective and I quit for a year, yet, inexorably, somewhat via work/life/illness stresses and increased socialising with smokers - I returned to the evil rollies.

So fast fwd to Xmas 2014, two consecutive chesty manflus later and I haven't touched a fag since 2014. Having the flu was an excellent (involuntary) kickstart to quitting. I really couldn't have faced a fag throughout the hacking month of December, so left well alone. Now much recovered from flu, two weeks into 2015 and haven't opened the fresh pack of tobacco bought before Xmas hols. Slightly tempted when friends are here smoking, but still saying no. Feels good not wheezing. Working out/swimming etc is still tough post-flu, but regaining sense of smell and better breathing contribute to ongoing motivation.

Has anyone else stumbled into quitting via cold/flu? Is this a good method, cold turkey via manflu? Any pitfalls/anecdotes shared would be appreciated, ta :-). Onwards...

Yes, when you have manflu that is the best time to quit. I usually don't smoke while having manflu for few days (10 days normally).

Alternatively, use your will power which is easier said than done. I just binned my tobacco just like that and stopped for 8 years only to start smoking again due to a very stressful episode of my life.

I will quit again when time is right ...

😉

Manflu stopped me a couple of times (threw whole 20 packs away etc) but always found myself back on the cigs. Tried vaping, and didn't work for very long. Tried vaping again with a decent e-cig, rather than a cheap one, and this Feb will be a year since touching a cigarette. Still on the e-cig but slowly working my way off that, too.

A thread after my own heart as it were , I gave up some 2 years ago for 12 months ,then a trip to Florida (4 weeks beer + sun made me start again ) .So I went out for a Xmas eve ride , had a smoke before hand and 3 miles in started blowing out of my behind chest killing me ,finished my ride and stopped at the car for a crafty one , I had one drag and threw it away ,ive not had one since even in work ,3 eeks in and im rocking patches and some £80 better for it an guess what ... I have man flu at the moment Ironic !

Plastic vaps don't work they are just a placebo
