There are a couple of bars on the Quays anyway, but the tram is a short ride to Deansgate, then you've a world of choice. Atlas Bar is great - opposite Deansgate Station.

When I worked on Deansgate, we spent so much time in Atlas that it was commonly referred to by us all as 'The Office'.

Personally I'd just prop up the Oyster Bar all night.

I was in Manchester at the weekend for an Alanis Morrissette gig which was cancelled, which I'd booked after the Foo Fighters gig was cancelled. Ironically. There's a couple of cocktail bars around Deansgate if that appeals, we went to Botanist (I think) on Deansgate and Alchemist a short walk away.

I shall be in there pre-gig this evening 😀

Last Botanist I went to was in Alderley Edge. Two pints, glass of wine, £24. We only stayed for one...

From the thread I started that Couger linked to, we went to Bundobust, it was great.

Botanist was alright but very much form over function. Neither were particularly cheap.

I'd have gone to bundywhatever on the back of that thread if I'd remembered its name in time. As it was we went to Vincenzo for food, an Italian place down a side street. It was city centre prices but the food and service was excellent.

When I was down for work I popped in to Peveril Of The Peak for a few which was fairly pleasant and looks to be pretty close to Deansgate. Another vote for Bundobust too

For an amazing interior try Brown's. The Brink was good for Manc music and ale but sadly now closed.

Is that the Woolpack in Salford 6? That used to be my local. Noticed as I drove past it the other day that it is now a pile of rubble.

Allegedly it used to be the only pub in Salford not paying protection money to Paul Massey. I don’t think that was due to the Alsatians on the roof

Thanks all, must of mis-remembered about Salford, thought there was always love for pubs that way on Manc drinking threads.

Marble Arch is a given, justifies the walk. Angel will get a visit on the way and the way back, even though it smells of death these days.

Intrigued by Atlas, has that always been a decent bar or was there a distinctly less good outlet there before Atlas? Remember going in from the photos but it was years ago and never inclined to go back!

If you're staying at Salford Quays, it's worth popping into Dockyard for one, then the 7 brothers stand just outside and the gyros stand next to it is also rather good. Then the tram into Manchester, loads of choice, Northern Quarter for bars, Trof is a good starting point, lots of pubs / bars, Mackie Mayor food hall.

Personally I’d just prop up the Oyster Bar all night.

I was about to comment on this before realising we did that dance on the other thread and you drink lager rather than ale.

I will -occasionally- drink lager but my preferred beery tipples are brown and chewy.

Nothing wrong with 7 Bro7hers in Media City, or the Dockyard next door.
