  • Mancunianists – decent, quickish food between Piccadilly and the Printworks
  • IHN

Off to see Top Gun tonight (woohoo!), at the 19:30 IMAX showing at the Printworks. Train gets in to Piccadilly at about 18:00, and need to get something to eat before the film.

She’s a slow eater, so need the food to appear pretty quickly so we’ve got time to eat without rushing around. Any recommendations for somewhere good with fairly rapid service?

    Anything goes cuisine-wise.

Had pizza at Franco manco recently. It was decent and very quick compared to Rudy’s which had a 2.5 HR wait for a table.

Wagamamma is just round the corner.

Tampopo is quite good for pan-Asian food, there’s one near Printworks.

I’d probably just go to Nando’s in the Printworks itself.

    Nando’s? Wagamamma? Tampopo? PFFT!

Get yourself to the Northern Quarter and embrace formica tops, plastic seats and ‘rice and 3’ at This and That which is still open at that time. The curry’s are awesome! And its round the corner from the Printworks

Right area, wrong restaurant. You want Pie Minister:

Definitely best to walk through NQ rather than down Market Street, loads of choice there.

PLY on Lever Street is a personal favourite, excellent pizza and pretty quick service.

Unfortunately Hunters has changed hands and apparently gone right down the tubes, which is a damn shame as they did the best chicken tikka kebabs in the known universe

@IHN – are you factoring in the 20 minutes of adverts and trailers before the fillum starts? We did and our arse hit our seats just as the ‘please turn off your mobile phones’ message came up and the Top Gun opening credits rolled

It’s absolutely bloody brilliant mate. The first ten minutes in particular. Enjoy! 😀

This, only I would pick Al Faisal on Thomas St. Rice, lamb and two veg.

    OR

Marhaba on Back Picadilly. Go for half lamb, half spinach & potato, and a naan. Their naans are the best I have had anywhere, ever. Also Marhaba comfortably wins the prize for the ratio of apparent grottiness : tastiness of food. So maybe not the best bet if you’re on a night out with the wife. She’ll think you’re trying to poison her.

Surely thats Yadgar? With the added ‘advantage’ of them having literally the worst service in the world as they literally throw your (absolutely delicious) food at you?

    The glamour…..

    😀

    Yeah, that’ll be ‘contingency’.

Also possibly after ideas for post-cinema pint, although that will have to be quick cos the train back is at 23:00.

You’ve no shortage of decent places for a post-cinema pint in the Northern Quarter.

You’ll be needing some of these though 😀

This ‘n’ That or Al Faisal.
I refuse to visit Manchester without visiting one or the other.

Might be an idea to avoid the cabbage curry at This ‘n’ That pre cinema. It’s not appropriate for enclosed spaces.

And have a drink in the Hare & Hounds just round the corner. One of the last traditional city centre pubs still going.
If you’re lucky, they’ll be having a sing song. Piano hasn’t been tuned for 35 years, but it doesn’t seem to matter.

Bar Fringe on Swan Street for the world’s craziest landlady, a fantastic atmosphere and great euro beer, or the Crown and Kettle for something a little less, er, individual.

It’s karaoke in there on a Friday night. A right old laugh!

    😂

He is quite possibly the grumpiest man in all of Greater Manchester, and that’s up against some pretty stiff competition!

Haven’t been to This n That for a long while now, but they were always the most cheerful. Let me pay the next day a good few times when I forgot my wallet. Did he ever paint the place blue after city won the league?

There was a load of street food vendors on Tuesday setting up in Piccadilly Gardens. Not sure what it was for or when for but could be a good shout?

The problem with that is that it involves going to Piccadilly Gardens, which would then more than likely entail getting badgered for change by someone off their head on Spice next to the Berlin Wall

For something very different, the Ethopian restaurant near Piccdailly is good. The staff are lovely there.

I like I am Pho on George street in china town. only a short detour off route.

There are a gazillion Vietnamese places in manchester now but this is one of the nicest / most authentic. basement location, and lovely lovely pancakes and summer rolls.

According to a spectacularly optimistic post by Manchester Council, Piccadilly Gardens is one of Europe’s premier public squares.

According to everyone else, it’s an utter shithole populated by druggies, a concrete wall and a tramline.

    Who to believe… 🤷‍♂️

Nihari Sundays only and often all gone by half one, two ish. 😶

However, if you’re lucky enough to visit Burnley, Shimla Spice keep a pot on the go all week.
    It’s excellent.

It’s a Sam Smiths pub. Utterly atrocious beer.
