Unless I am mistaken, Firefox seems to be using an awful lot of CPU power and I am not sure why, I have disabled any plug-ins I have installed to see if it makes a difference (although I am sure they are shown in a seperate thread anyway).

I don't feel like I have that many tabs open...or doing anything especially demanding with Firefox!

2.3Ghz i7 quad core processor
8gb RAM
early 2011 macbook

Any suggestions?

Google Maps, j'accuse. The "new and improved" version kicks the arse out of mine.

Process of elimination, closing tabs?

There's a 'safe mode' on the Windows version, but I'm guessing that's what you're referring to by disabling add-ons.

Anyway, I'm no expert on Macs, but isn't "Safari" the accepted solution to this sort of issue on that platform?

Personally gave up on firefox as it became a ridiculous resource hog - but that was awhile back.

It doesn't help you in the least but I just thought I would add it !

Latest version of Firefox? It's updated pretty regularly these days.
