Help me out chaps, I'm useless with these things.

I'm doing a basic Incoming/Outgoing type spreadsheet with OpenOffice Calc. I've downloaded a template from somewhere and I just want to change the name in one of the boxes. When I try to change it in the address bar it kind of shows the function and changes that, which is not what I want. I'd also like to delete a few unneeded columns if possible.

Where does the function point to? It might be you're expected to fill the value in somewhere else, as it's being used in a couple of places. Can you copy it and post it here?

Deleting columns may not work if they're being used somewhere else, but you could always hide them. Either way you right-click on the column header (the letter A,B,C etc).

Not being rude but it sounds but, it maybe best to just make you own sheet to start with..

Just add the column headers you want and start recording the data.
Date/Company/Classifaction/AmountDue/Due Date/Budget Account/Amount Paid/Pay Date

The template sounds like its got formula's and pehaps macros's which are no longer functional when you make the changes you want

Ah, perfect! Thanks 🙂

Re; the first issue, under my outgoings I'm just trying to change 'travelling' to 'mobile phone' but when I double click I get '=$Summary.G31' in the bar at the top.

'=$Summary.G31'

That means it's showing the value of cell G31 on the Summary sheet.

(Edit: the sheets are the tabs at the bottom of the window)

Ah! I sorted it, just had to change it on the 'summary' page. Thanks mogrim.

Samunkim: yeah, you're probably right, but being new to spreadsheets I generally find with any software it's easier to have a project to play with to work things out. I probably will make a new one once I've mastered the basics.
