MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Am trying to pursuade Mrs Jiff of the benefits in camping, however she has serious issues about trudging across dodgy fields with a loo-roll/towel/wash-bag in her hand. I have a tent, just need some good sites to start off with. Needs to have nice/quality wash facilities and somewhere decent to eat nearby. We're not bothered about leisure facilities as we'll be out & about during the day.
If you can recommend somewhere with decent cycling nearby by too - happy days !
My ultimate aim is to go camping around the Scottish isles in 2010.
Thanks all.
These 3 defo tick all yer boxes

we're off to the New Forest in a couple of weeks.....
Torrent Walk nr Dollgellau is handy for CyB & MachX.
Has excellent facilities & was £5 a night last year. Is nice & flat also.
Behind the Little Chef (on A470 I think).
Hollows Farm,Grange in the Lake District.
Highburn House in Northumberland (Wooler) is superb.
Lovely location, good clean showers and loos, 5 minutes walk from the town, superb riding nearby.
Pretty perfect really.

The camp site is free at the Big Bike Bash but there is also a full facility (permanent toilets and showers) you can book direct via Avon Tyrrell. Check out the Big Bike Bash website for details
The BBB free website has toilets by the way, they are just tempoarary ones.

Argh! Family mega-death campsite. Nice loos though 😉
My misses had never camped before last weekend.
We picked here:
Pub does cracking food and beer. You're in The Peaks, so pick your riding.
Facilities for the camp site are new this year. Very good showers, plenty of hot water, kept clean, we never had to queue.
Just planning our 2nd trip for September, so I guess she enjoyed it!
Just my opinion, but if a prerequisite for the campsite is to have all the comforts then your missus is really missing the point.
Temporary minor discomfort in excange for staying somewhere out-of-the-ordanary in a wild-feeling (if not actually very wild really) location is what it's all about.
I ****en love camping
We just stayed at the Great Langdale NT campsite. Old Dungeon pub across the road, loads of walking and cycling possibilities and a pretty good campsite. Not the cheapest and a slightly complicated pricing structure but good showers and a good wee shop. Don't know about the isles but we stayed at Applecross campsite and Big Sands at Gairloch three years ago. Both excellent.
Another vote for Big Sands near Gairloch, top site, not all crammed together like some others. Clean facilities and a wee shop.

Handy, I often need a poo whilst on the internet.
If you fancy the Forest of Dean:

- it's owned/run by the Civil Service Motoring Association (members typically Civil Service plus what used to be Civil Service - BT, Post Office) - looks like it takes Joe Public too now.
Haven't been there for years but the facilities were pretty good then and I'm sure they will be now.
Torrent Walk is next to a fairly busy & loud main road. We stayed there Whit Bank holiday & left early. Perhaps on a quieter weekend it's better. Was kinda put off by the number of folks playing radios loudly as well.
There is, however, a lovely looking campsite about 300 metres on the left past Torrent Walk that backs on the river.

Nnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooo, dont even think about this one anywhere near the shcool holidays or bank holidays, i made the mistake a few years back and it was enough to put me off camping for life !!!!!
We found Spiers House near Pickering decent enough & very convenient for the Moors, Dales & Dalby. If you ask nicely when you book they may let you lock your bikes in their garages too.
Another vote for Burrowhayse Farm, Exmoor.
Only downsides;
There is pretty much only one pitch that is flat, and thats under a tree so if it rains you get drips on the tent all night. The rest of the tent area is gently sloping which is OK as long as you make sure your feet are pointing downhill in bed!
The riding is generally hilly which may be an issue if she is new to biking as well. There is plenty of country lane type riding and some wide bridleways that follow the rivers, but they all tend to ramp up after a few miles. If she is a seasoned mtbr, then the riding is great 🙂

Think you're missing the point, he wants to introduce his missus to camping with the intention of her enjoying it and then getting more adventurous. No point putting her off the first time.
