...So it is on offer for £22.70 a bottle. Just don't go into the Montrose store expecting any to be left.

Oh bollards - if I'd read this earlier I would've been straight in - now I'm at home with the kids so hoping some left tomorrow!

Did you take it up to a till? It might still be full price on the shelf, but could still scan through reduced. Especially when it seems like a nation wide deal.

I was tempted to get a bottle, never tried Ardbeg, but the tasting notes on the website make it sound rank! I'm not a fan of peated scotch so I think it's probably not one for me, but tallow soap? Charcoal? Gtfo.

Prawny > It's very peaty. Have you tried Laphroaig? That's broadly similar. I doubt it's your dram of tea.

Jesus, if it's like Laphroaig it's way over priced at £22, it undrinkable.

Last week Tesco had Talsker Storm at £30 which is closer to right level of smokeyness.

How very dare you, Laphroaig is my favourite whisky. One mans poison is anothers nectar.

Most people think that, but in fact, OOB's taste is objectively correct and people who differ are wrong. 🙂

To be fair Laphroaig is a bit marmite. I have a mate who can't understand how I can like Laphroaig and other whiskys that taste completely different 🙂

Colleague from work messaged me from Tesco Tuesday night with the message "Ardbeg 10yo 70cl £23.50?" and now there's a bottle sat under my desk. These are the sorts of people you want to work with.

Funnily enough when I was giving the bottle of Laphroaig (I couldn't drink it) away I offered it to a mate with the words "I've got 3/4 of a bottle of Scotch if you want it, I find it undrinkable".

He replied "Undrinkable? Laphroaig is it?". (...and it turned out he liked it.)

I've spent a lifetime telling people I prefer peaty Whiskys, now I've started to drink the stuff it turns out I don't like peaty Whiskys at all.

And last night it said 'discontinued' when I looked so I suspect Charlie's not telling the truth.

Edit: ah, yes, took a while to type the reply!

Ahh, never tried Laphroaig either, would be tempted to try a nip, but I'm not going to drop £20+ on a full bottle.

Tried Jura recently, would go for a bottle of that if anyones giving it away.

Will make do with Highland Earl for now 😆

Meanwhile, as I discussed hearing about the offer with my colleague - widely known that we both love ardbeg and laphroaig - the third member of our small team piped up "oh yeah, I saw that in Tesco so I grabbed a bottle." Great, we say, any left? "Yeah there were two".... didn't think to tell us? "Ah, sorry". So we jump in the car to check. All gone in the two branches near us. "Phil, hope you enjoy your ardbeg" we say. Phil says "nah, don't really like islay, too peaty". Turns out Phil's a ****
