Currently on sale on Amazon, the hi tec bariloche jacket might be an ideal companion for those chilly evenings.
Monster! Monster!

That's a nice understated jacket, interesting one review knocks it down one star because it was too warm for skiing!
If obtainable for £30-ish, that's a real bargain. 😀
Thanks for the tip.
Yup £28.50: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00NB1CQN4/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new
Damn, I'm tempted, but I really don't need another jacket, I've got too many already.

How warm is it? I see it recommended on another thread. I've been thinking about something like a down jacket for use to about 0 degrees, would this be a good alternative?

It has 100gm of insulation, one reviewer was complaining it was too warm for skiing in April, so I reckon it ought to be just right with a light fleece underlayer or midlayer if it's a windy, chilly day.

Here's some more thoughts...

Amazons returns are good if you can take it to one of their associates (usually your local newsagents)...just hang onto the receipt!

The jacket is far less bulky than any primal oft jacket I've owned, in fact it's quite puzzling why it gets so warm so quickly.

Don't know if it's waterproof.

I took a hike up the Kilpatricks near Glasgow last week and it was well toasty, worn on the return after sunset.

Unless I'm wrong (as if) it's only the small that's cheap.
Prices go up for M, L & XL.

The large was twenty odd quid earlier

They have increased the price, luckily that gives me an excuse not to buy another jacket

With the 'toasty warm' comments I hope it's half decent.

I've currently got another cheap brand wind stopper jacket, it's toasty warm but you sweat like nothing else as I am sure the wind stopper technology used is a bin liner. I'm hoping this isn't the same!

Prices went up, I guess as more people bought them...

Ah, yes, hadn't spotted that but still too dark for my tastes (and riding on road in the dark)

Mine arrived today. Looks good for the money. Large was a touch larger than I was expecting but not silly big. With the cold forecast over the next few days will be interesting to see how warm it is. Doesn't pack down that small though. Going to try it in a compression sack later on.

When I looked it was a softshell. Since when do softshells "pack down"?

FWIW the outdoor store I work in has just started stocking HiTec clothing and I seems really well made. We don't stock this jacket though.

Its a skiing jacket so a bit waterproof, a bit insulating
Notice the forearm ski pass pocket and the wrist sleeve extenders

Took myself and bariloche out for a quick spin yesterday.
I appreciate the slight peak on the hood which means it works well, worn under a bike helmet.
It's also wind proof.
Seems almost perfect (to me) for Cold weather cycling.
And there doesn't seem to be anything close if you can pick it up for 30 quid.

I paid nearer forty quid for mine, lol!

My medium and large arrived today.

Both are going back, my idea of a soft shell jacket, obviously isnt what others is.

Its a full on insulated ski type jacket. Its quite heavy, and doesnt look that waterproof.

Cheers for the PSA, not your classic softshell, as it has a separate (internally) insulated lining & no way I'd ride in it! As a nice warm, hopefully waterproof (within reason) jacket for £30, I like it a lot!
