Not sure what his past history is, but maybe its because his name is an anagram of 'nobs sore'? Possibly. There may be an L feeling left out though.

Was he in the French Revolution?

The Nobles didn't come out of that very well?

Hmm, I may have the wrong comedian....

I thought he was the one who was in court / prosecuted for beating his wife, but I think I am mistaken.....

SOrry Ross...

He smells of dirty hair too.

You must be thinking of Michael McIntyre.

He picked me out of the crowd one time to take the piss out of and it was pretty much the funniest 10 minutes of my life, I ended up pretty ill from laughing so hard. He's selfindulgent but when he's good he's a genius

That was Justin Lee Collins IIRC (wife beating)

I happen to think he is very funny when he is in the groove. Watched him do the first 20 mins of a set in Oxford from the sound engineers booth and then he took over some guys invalid scooter for another section, totally random but funny as hell

I'm out tonight, and I don't think we've got Davervailable ont' telly.

Shame. Also think he seems to be a decent guy and incredibly funny when he's on it. Still find myself saying "banana" in a particular way after seeing a "stephen Hawking /monkey bit of his from a stand-up show.

I'd love to ride the SSDT some day, but I don't know if it's going to happen. Might have started a bit late! Maybe not though. Will be interesting to see how Ross Noble gets on.

We saw him live last year, i don't think a single second was scripted or pre-rehearsed, he just comes on and goes off on one, not always funny, but when he gets his flow he is hilarious, i think he openly admits to being ADHD and you can almost see it as his mind flits back and forth between subjects and back again.

I've seen him a couple of times live. The most recent, earlier this year, he wasn't great tbh.
John Richardson on the other hand was fantastic on his Old Man tour.

I sympathise with him, the first race I ever did was a national level enduro and I was laughably shit, (dead last in seeding run, including the kids and girls...), despite considering myself to be a half decent rider (15 years experience at that point). Hope he keeps with it, and he’ll get his head together and be clearing sections, but fear his fitness will get the better of him.

Edit, just.checked the results. Dougie lampkin dabbed once, in the whole event. Once. I probably dab more times getting out of a trail center car park 😯

I fixed his (trials Gas Gas) bike once. He rode it into his own pond. Totally, utterly filled up with brown water & left to stew!

Rode SSDT twice a very long time ago. Split finger first try & finished next go. Proper tough do, highly recommended......but serious fitness required, wish I lacked. Discovered trials in sunny France after that.

Really enjoying this, more so as he's struggling to get through the stages, and is being really honest about it.

He's obviously not a complete novice on a trials bike either but it puts it into perspective just how hard the Scottish is.
I've never ridden it but I've back marked it & some of the moor crossings are brutal, without sticking sections in!
I'm trying to identify the sections, missed this years but I'll be there next May!

Were you, by any chance, wearing a checked shirt, and was that what he riffed on?

Id like to do the linking together bits - the moors look like motorised mountain biking!!! Its just the sections themselves that put me off - id snap myself in half

He'd probably do ok at your local centre trial. But those Scottish sections 😯 I'd have to basically carry the bike through them !! The first one ( normally an easy sighter ) would have sent me home.

The 1st set at Leanachan (Nevis Range car park) are pretty hard & so are nearly all of the spectator accessible sections. Some of the middle of nowhere ones are rideable for everyone. I try to get a ride on the MTB to a remote set but sometimes nearly everyone goes clean or does ok.
Youv'e got to have really hard sections to stop Puggy Dumpkin cleaning every one although he wasn't far off this year!

Enjoyed watching that. Looking forward to the next episode.
He's obviously been riding two wheels for a long time, and in his Kent practice area looked pretty good, just goes to show how tough the SSDT really id though.
There difficult, and then there's SSDT 😯

I wasn't a fan before and I'm less of one now! Whatever made him chose the SSDT?? Something more enduroey would've been better. That and lose a few stone.

He has already done the hobby class at the romantics and ridden in the 24 hrs dawn till dusk event as a solo entrant.
I don't know about the romantics on the easier route , but the 24 hr event is evil , I rode a few years ago and it destroyed me ,ripped my hands to bits and hurt everywhere.
Hats off to him getting round as it is a super tough event ,best and worst week you can have in your life..

I'm struggling with the though that if he's an enduro rider why didn't he do the ISDE?
Seems a bit odd. 😆

Think he enjoys riding the trials bike and the ssdt is
One of the few events where normal people can ride with the best in the world.
Not sure what the Isdt is like ,I've never done it,but like the Dakar I think the budget involved keeps a lot away.
Would have loved a go at both.
Guy Martin did the pre 65 which is a 2 day and struggled so think that puts Ross's efforts into perspective.

What a shitty thing to say, have you ridden many trials events yourself?

If you're talking about the ISDE.
It's not the budget that kept him away. 😉
He'd also have been able to enter quite easily.

Never heard of the chap before but reading this I assume that he is a telly person. Nice to see some SSDT on the box but what a shame it was this way.
Wouldn't be hard to get a ISDE ride, just submit a club team application to the ACU.
Do I spot a Pampera rider in our midst?
If so ridden the Wyegate?

I think he’s doing really well considering the preparation he (didn’t) do..

It’s no mean feat, far harder than I ever imagined the SSDT to be, I thought it was a simple series of sections over a week.. never imagined it included vast expanses of moorland in between sections.

His mate though, what a cock.

I thought that as well. Then I thought maybe it was the editing making James look bad but then you could see how upset RN became. (I watched ep2 last week somehow?)

I get the impression he's a damn good rider, regular top 10s etc in Enduro. So the lad can ride.

I'm absolutely loving the programme. It's a great watch.

Yeah, look I’ve been in mentoring situations similar (long distance rides or sailing) and yes the pressure gets to you when a weak link in the chain starts to ebb..l but that’s precisely when compassion and help and throwing away all your own goals to sacrifice for the assistance of the other weaker link.
It makes you a much stronger person.
I’m hoping Ross tells him to GTFO and ride his own trails, bring the situation back to one of balance.

So, next weeks programme maybe a turn around.. 😀

I woundn't go that far. I can totally understand how frustrating it is to know how much of a great time you could be having if you weren't having to look after someone who's having more trouble.

He agreed to do it in advance, sure, but presumably he agreed to take an already handy rider (or non-novice with potential, whatever) and spend 12 months with him, getting him to where he needed to be, so the input during the trial would be much more about section advice rather than constant encouragement/haranguing, pulling him out of bogs, and always being one minor mechanical away from elimination.

And he was probably worried about it turning out like this at all, and only agreed to it after assertions that Ross would definitely put the work in. then: "Can't start now, in an bit, start next month, next month now, sorry..."

His frustration is probably 12 months in the making, probably partly at himself for taking the project on because he thought it might work out like this, and he knew he wouldn't react well to not being able to ride how he wants.

He does have a choice about resetting himself given where he is now, but I imagine that gets harder every time he sees a rider blat past while he's looking round for RN...

Presumably he got paid enough for the job though - he's credited quite heavily on the programme. He had a choice, I guess. Do the job he's paid for or ride his own race and not get credits or pay? If the former he had no right to act the way he did.

Edit: just a thought, compare his attitude to Simon Pavey with Boorman on the Dakar Rally.

Slightly OT, anyone know where those white cottages are that they're staying in? I assume not far from Parc Fermé (car park) in Fort William
