I really pushed the boat out and spent £8 on a plastic ring to propose to MrsTH.

*a symbolic, fake Lego one, for her to then choose one she actually wanted at a later date.

Yeah , but you can only marry someone you met in Poundland, in Poundland. And have the reception in Poundland as all Poundland branches are now licensed for weddings , funerals , barmitzfahs and karaoke. Fact.

At least if you meet someone and propose to the, in Iceland you could sneak a trip to Iceland into it, which is worth it.

I never proposed, she bought the ring she wanted, 24 years this year.

Still not convinced we'll last to see our silver anniversary

I wear a titanium wedding ring I bought off Amazon.

From 30cm it looks absolutely identical to my mates platinum wedding band which cost 100 times as much.

Bargain rings for the win 😀

Apparently my great grandfather was engaged 15 times. I suspect he was using a similar value ring to the Poundland one. His Job- sailor!

I've always thought there would be a market for a Las Vegas style quickie drive-thru divorce chapel. Much the same arrangement as a drive through wedding, but for the divorce you have to be towing a caravan and just missed a turning.

Personally, I wouldn’t wear a titanium ring. They’re almost impossible to cut off in the event of an accident where a finger gets trapped, there’s very few options for removing or cutting titanium.

I’ve got a very heavy thumb ring, 3mm thick and 13mm wide, but being silver it can be cut off if necessary, but titanium is a whole other ball game. My mate is a goldsmith, and occasionally gets people bring in titanium rings for adjusting - ain’t gonna happen!

I’ll leave you to make your own mind up.

@countzero

Thanks for that 🙂

I really wanted a tungsten carbide ring. They need to be crushed off with mole grips. I thought if I ended up needing a ring removed having the finger it was on crushed would make a bad day much worse!

I am confident of my ring needs resized I will buy another. But I thought the emergency services can cut it off?

A wee Google suggest

Titanium rings, although very tough and durable in wear are the softest of our alternative metals, and as suc can be removed using a standard ring cutter, which most independent jewellers usually have, as well as hospital departments, and the fire brigade. You can even purchase one on eBay for less than £10.

Can they be cut off in an emergency? I imagine they won't cut with a pair of wire cutters/ snips like gold or silver, but should come off with something a bit chunkier?

having used a ring cutter on a gold ring I very much doubt they would cut titanium but I haven't tried

My now wife was previously married and when they divorced she left her husband to sort the legal side out. He chose quickydivorce.com. Somewhat vindicated her decision by all accounts.

And I saw Gerald Ratner on the after dinner speech circuit a few years ago, he was excellent and clearly still doing well for himself.

Of course our Yank cousins lose their minds over Poundland, thinking the 'pound' in the name is a verb rather than a noun. But the engagement ring would still be appropriate even if that were the case

or maybe not, if it was equitable financially and emotionally then this might have been the surest way of ensuring a clean break with as little mental scarring as possible. Many divorces turn into combatative events with long lasting mental scars and the lawyers making lots of money.

I used services from wikivorce.com and everything went smoothly and efficiently and with no drama.

Removing a tight ring using string.  But this guy says a ring cutter will work on titanium.

Some years back I did a bit of hostelling in the US and I remember casually mentioning to an American guy that I bought some USB lead or something from a shop called Poundland and yep, he thought it was hilarious. In fairness, we did have a good laugh over it, he was a real free spirit, very interesting bloke to chat to. Wonder what he's up to now?...

The ukip logo with the £ always evoked cheap tat. Maybe they got poundland to design it? Their new logo has gone in a different direction however 🫣

I’ve got a really nice ‘Lord of the rings’  ring made by people who did the film ones.

Its happily lived in its box for many years as getting a ring caught can be finger ripping good 🙂

TBH DoD dad never wears his either and he’s been married to DoD mum for over 58 years.

Yeah, saw that yesterday, there’s people asking what’s wrong with it, the cross is the same as on the Imperial Crown in the British monarchy’s regalia, but that was made around 1830 or so, when Britain and Germany had much closer ties.

It does look like someone knocked it up in MS Paint or something similar. An Iron Cross with a spear passing through it really isn’t a good look, not that the average far-Right mouth-breather gives a rats ass about anything like that. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Anyway, back on topic, in the highly unlikely event that I should find myself with someone wishing to have a ring bought for them, a cheap Poundland as a placeholder I’m sure would be acceptable until I had something made - it’s handy knowing people who own and work in a goldsmiths.
