OS Maps subscription 50% off (Black Friday offer) is now available on their website.

Down from £35 to £17.50. I've just done mine and it's added the 12 months on to when my current one runs out at the end of December so nothing to lose.

Arse, paid them the full whack last week with no warning. My mistake for forgetting when it expired. What can I do now so I don't miss out next year?

Buy this - it will stack onto your current (2026 I assume) expiry.   I just bought it earlier and it stacked fine onto my already stacked subscription.  I'm now good until the end of 2027!

My half price deal just expired so was waiting for this, thanks.

presumably they must live off this - everyone's expiry will align with Black Friday.

Yes, I imagine they get a *lot* of orders during Black Friday!

Another sub stacked so I'm good until November 2027 😀

Anyone else had reminders saying that their sub renewal will be taken despite taking up this black friday renewal?

On 26/11/25 I bought the renewal and I'm pretty sure at the time it showed the correct expiry date (Jan 2027) on my account.

I've just had an email saying my renewal will be taken automatically in 7 days.  When I check my account is shows as expiring on 15/01/2026.

I obvs don't want to pay again (at full price) having already paid for it back in Nov.

Anyone else seen this or had experience of it?

Had that back in August and I emailed them, their response is below:

It looks like the email that you got was automatically triggered by the impending expiry date of the existing subscription, and it was not smart enough to pick up that there is already a subscription in place to take over.

I am sorry for the concern that email caused, and you will not be charged again.

Yes I got the same email but as nuke says above you won't be charged.

I did add a PSA thread about this a few months ago and other users confirmed all would be fine i.e. no additional charge.

The OS website says the 50% discount is for new subscribers only, so how do you manage to stack them to an existing subscription?

The Black Friday deal wasn't restricted to new customers only.

Thanks for your comments, that's reassuring.

I've checked, and I see the correct date in the app, it's just the full website which shows incorrectly.

Yeah the dates don't match lol!

I see three different expiry dates:

OS maps via Chrome shows 09/11/2027

OS account shows 09/11/2026

OS maps Android app shows 12/11/2027 (I think this is the correct one)

🤣

Slightly off topic but recently plotting routes the “snap to path” function wasn’t working correctly and coming up with different routes. I did a bit of investigating and there is a setting in your preferences to switch global mapping off. When you do that the “snap to” function works perfectly again.

Ah thanks for that, I had noticed some odd behaviour with the Snap-to-Path so I will check that.  Cheers! 👍

Having just recently found out that my viewranger mapping that I bought/paid for the entire country and all my routes have disappeared i may buy this offer of OS mapping at £17.

If I order it, can I then cancel the repeat subscription and use for the year at £17?

Its just for my browsing of places I’ve been to/rides/routes I’ve done/would loved to have done etc whilst at home, despite not leaving the house due to my body deciding to slowly kill me I still like looking at maps of Scotland

I haven't changed the default settings, but it is sometimes apparent that the path being snapped to is someone else's gpx route. The best example I have of this is plotting routes through Hamsterley where it will sometimes route you down cheeky trails where there's nothing official on the OS map.

Yes there is a cancel subscription option in the account settings.

@northernsoul I didn’t change settings either, I think it was a result of an update. If you don’t alter the settings it uses street mapping, (whatever that is)  on some Lake District routes it appeared to follow hiking routes.

There's a "hidden" OpenStreetmap layer that you can't see on the map but definitely exists in the data. I know this as I've added stuff to OSM and it subsequently shows up in the OS app (after a variable delay).

I subscribed at half price this time last year, my subscription didn't auto renew a week or so ago. It's let me renew at half price again. Happy with that. I don't actually use it that much, but it's a nice to have and to be fair, I did get a couple of quids worth of use out of it at grizedale the other day!

That makes sense - I can now see that the snap to path routes in Hamsterley are following routes markes as footpaths in OpenStreetmap.

For the previous 2 days I’ve attempted to buy the mapping for the 50% discount @ £17.50 but I get as far as entering my card details and hitting “complete and pay” and then get the following message.

I only have the one bank card and there’s no option to pay with PayPal, I’ve sent an email to them but not heard back

Isn't this for new subscribers only?

I used the free trial years ago and can't seem to get this to work. I also have about 25 paper maps redeemed for offline use. It's a weird app

I cancelled my subscription, left it 24 hours, then it let me add the 50% offer which added onto my existing subscription time left.

Yeah, I think this offer is for new subscribers only, so if you already have an account it won't work.

A 50% offer for all will no doubt be available in the next few weeks, if you are an existing user, then buy then and the half price subscription will stack on your existing account. You may get reminders that your sub is about to expire but it rolls over automatically and stays active.

The black Friday 50% offer before Christmas also had the 'only for new subscribers' in the TCs and i mentioned it on the PSA bargain thread but it turned out you could still stack subscriptions... wonder whether they're adhering to that rule on this offer?

@somafunk keep trying as it’s a fantastic way of seeing routes without travelling them! The 3d, satellite option does bring the country to life.

@somafunk I’ve literally just done it with my Nationwide debit card, have you tried someone else's in case your bank is down?

Arghhhhhhhhh.............. 🤬

It's a non-specific message that can be anything from not putting the card expiry date in correctly to a problem at OS

Ring your bank and see if they can give you a clue

Tried one last time after removing cookies/cache etc but "computer says no", perhaps it doesn't like my bank of Scotland visa debit card, never had a credit card so guess I'm mapless (for now)....bloody annoying that PayPal doesn't work for the digital sub.

Has trump cancelled all my accounts like he has with the ICC judges and UN Special Rapporteur Francesa Albanese?, given what I've wrote about him and the gestapo thugs running the U.S I could almost believe it 😉 - perhaps he doesn't want me to have the detailed mapping as I've previously got form (back in 2016) and removed for riding my Scott Genius over his Turnberry courses - there's a very nice grassy knoll overlooking the 4th hole "woe-be-tide" green that I've previously mentioned....................perhaps I've said too much?........... 😟 ......

I'll try again tomorrow, will get mum to bring her royal bank Scotland card over.
