Jelly Bean is finally here! It's only 4 months overdue but I think this is 4.1.2 which is a bonus.

Just downloading it via Kies now.

got mine on Optus in Oz, it's all good, more info in mail/text previews, block mode (that works) and more nice little tweaks 🙂

Don't think they're doing it for my Sensation. Ah well my new phone will hopefully have Key Lime Pie on it

Do Orange do this automatically .......or do I have to do it manually ...(and how is that done ??)

And what will the improvements be ?

For any users of MMTracker be aware that JB breaks the app. I'd rather stay on ICS and keep the app working.

My Note2 came with JB - sooo much nicer than ICS on my old Desire HD

Quick question - I have an HTC one X and my desktop charger means that it has to be on it's side (as that's where the power connection is situated) and I was hoping that JB would allow the home screen to rotate but it doesn't - anyone know how this could be done? Many thanks T

Get a stock firmware and debrand with odin3.

If you cant use odin3 you don't deserve to have a phone.

Do you know if it's the same for the S2? I like being able to view 50K maps on the phone (i just have the trial version for viewing maps as use endomondo for tracking)

Sorry, my bad its the file system changes in 4.2 that break MMTracker, 4.1.x should be OK. Unfortunately the dev doesn't appear to be doing any further work on the app, probably due to MMs action.

You need to update via Kies (connected to a PC/laptop) as Orange took the "update phone" tab off the phone!

And the latest (last?) version of MMTracker works fine on 4.1.2 (the latest version of Jelly Bean) whereas it didn't work on the latest version of ICS (IME).

I'm on a S2 and need to wait a bit longer...still no date but there are hints it could be the next 6 weeks...which is bareable...have to say, latest update of ICS has made my phone crash constantly...hoping Jelly Bean will rectify a lot of the crashing and hanging...not daily but the fact it happens annoys me most - didn't do it before I updated to lastest version of ICS (through Kies and on Vodafone).

I hate this network specific bloatware bullcrap. It's one thing I wish Android would take from the iOS school of thought.

Is it worth doing or is it just going to take another few weeks to get used to before the next update?

Dan, it's the latest update to the operating system of the phone...if your current phone is working without issues, then probably no need to update...but the update will have some new bits and pieces that may prove useful for you...

Is 4.2 just a nexus thing then?

It's entirely possible just get a non branded phone from someone like carphonewharehouse and you can still get the deal on contract etc just non of the crap. alternatively note down the network settings and flash the phone back to standard.

My s3 has minimal branding and is unlocked from day 1.

It's not case of Android taking from Ios but the networks demanding some way to enhance & make money

Just download a stock firmware (non branded) and flash to the phone using odin. I bought a T mobile/orange phone off ebay. Now its unbranded.

I've had it a little while about 6 weeks on my S3 on Three. Makes it a bit quicker and a few new features. It also appeared to download a further update on Thursday , android 4.1.2.

I know it's possible, I've got a Galaxy Nexus. Point is that normal people just go to a network and order a Desire, an S3 or whatever they've seen advertised and when it turns up it has loads of Orange/Vodaphone/EE whatever crap which you can't uninstall plus you have to wait ages for any updates! It gives Android a very cheap and shitty user experience IMHO.

The Desire was particularly brilliant as it only left you with 70 mb free for apps thanks to orange's useless crapware which mostly duplicated other stuff already on the phone (maps, app store, messaging, etc).

bruneep - ;-D

You can, but you shouldn't have to. Besides, you can't always (locked bootloaders, tricky flash procedures on some phones etc).

I'm as big an android fanboy as you'll find, but Apple really gets it right here IMHO.

A couple of things you should see are the multi window control (Open settings\Dsiplay, tick/untick Multi Window) and music player tab on headphone insert.

careful if you use a car dock

unbranded phone here upgraded to Jellybean before Christmas

main problem is the old audio out and charge facility via USB has been disabled so your car dock wont work
well it will work as far as holding the phone but you cant charge the ****er or listen to your banging tunes thro car stereo

pretty annoying and a known fault

Samsung are "working on it"

🙁

I have to agree with you, I was recently explained what the point of getting just a sim card was... basically you can buy the phone that you want and then get the card to connect to a network. Its far cheaper becuase you're not paying for the mark up the the network puts on the actual mobile phone.

I got mines here but there are lots of options available with other networks. Hope this helps 🙂

You can of course delete, disable or freeze bloatware apps without gaining root access, then rearrange all the network provided apps to the back of your app drawer where you'll never have to see them again, it's what I do on getting a new phone and have never had any problems with memory etc.

I tend to have shortcuts to eurosport, BBC iPlayer, maps and satnav on my home screen with live widgets for weather, Twitter, Facebook etc on there too. To use my phone you wouldn't know it had come from '3' as all their crap has been moved, deleted, disabled etc.
