Just realised, after turning on pc, after a while it has a black oblong in the centre of the screen ( like an error message type box, but black!).
The systems tray at the bottom of the screen disappears too, just leaving the vista badge and google. Everything seems to work, and on re-start it all comes back.
Only thing I can think of is it's connected to yesterdays' MS updates, including service pack 2 for office 2007.
Anyone else had problems?

Yes.
I have been wary of updating for a couple of months now after trouble with an update. I did a re set thing back to an earlier time to fix it.
