Is legal to have a solicitor to draw up a Power of Attorney letter ?

Or can you do it yourself and get it witnessed by a public official ?

Any advice appreciated.

Solicitor will charge mega bucks, it was a real pita when I completed it and, in fact, didn't get registered as the OPG kept returning it! The whole thing was a nightmare although this was when they bought in the new system.

Get it done when the person is of sound mind and it is very straightforward

£80 DIY or £350 through a solicitor. DIY should be fine if your request is straightforward.
I've got the links/forms for a DIY, but I'm in Scotland, so dunno if they are any use to you (email in profile).

It used to cost £150 each to register it with the OPG so if you have one for Personal Welfare plus one for Financial Affairs (or whatever it's called) that's £300 without involving solicitors. 😯

Whoever came up with the idea should be hung and quartered.

Oh yes, don't forget if you need a GP to sign then £100 please. 😯

And breathe ...
