I had an idea the other day while in [insert generic supermarket]. I'd popped in to pick up one thing as I was passing and realised that there was a shopping list at home but I had no idea what was on it - wouldn't it be good if there was a way to get the list sent to you?!
So.... I have had a play and created 'List Buddy'

Basically it's a service where you build a list using SMS or the web site and you can have this list sent to you by SMS whenever you want it.
The beauty of this is that the list can be shared with other people's designated phones - so your significant other can get or edit the list as easily as you. It also means that if you pop in somewhere and get carrots you can easily remove them from the list, similarly anyone can add to the list as soon as they think of an addition instead of waiting to write it down.
It's also cross platform, needs no app and works on both old and new technology.

It's simple to use as well. All you have to do is send a message to the List Buddy number with one of the following commands:
Add - Will add items to your list (i.e. Add crisps, coke, carrots)
Rem - Will remove items from your list (i.e. Rem coke, carrots)
Clear - Removes all items from your list
List - Sends you your list by text message
Help - Sends you the commands

With regards to charges, nearly everybody gets 3 gazillion messages in their bundle now so editing and requesting your list is effectively free. But it costs me/List Buddy to send you your list whenever it's requested so there would be a small charge of, say £1.00/month or £10 for 12 months to cover these costs.

Everything other than the web site is is up and running and it's tested successfully.

If anyone wants to give it a try (free of charge) then please get in touch through my profile - I'm happy for as many as poss to try it.

So, what do you think?

evernote does a lot of what you are trying to do, and it's free and allows me to do a lot more than create lists. it is an app though...

A business idea needs a way of making money... do you think people would pay for this?

Springpad and Wunderlist do this too, or near enough. There's probably tonnes of apps and stuff that do this.

You could make money FROM the big supermarkets, by secretly adding items to the list??

carrot
pineapple
genoa bar
museli
TENNANTS SPECIAL BREW
salad
tomatoes
lean mince
20 LAMB AND BUTLER
trail snacks
skimmed milk
HEAT MAGAZINE

etc etc

If you could link it to which supplier locally would be cheapest for the complete list, you could strike a deal with the suppliers, it might even work out free for the customer 😉

Then you would have a winner, well for me anyway 😉

Yep so there are others out there but they all seem to need an app and are therefore not cross platform and presume you're happy to use your data plan if you have one.
Not seen anything that would work for someone without either iOS or Android phone.

Last time i forgot my list, I asked the wife to take a photograph of it and send it to me via 'WhatsApp'.

I was thinking of this but if it's a food list then there are too many variables to make it work.... I think.
If I could find a way to send SMS for free then I'd just do it free of charge.
