So, I have a normal mobile broadband dongle and SIM from Vodafone that plugs into a USB port.
If I get a MiFi wireless wotsit from Amazon like, say this:

can I just take the SIM out of my existing dongle and whack it in the new one?
Should do. I bought the same MIFI device but I had to unlock it (easy on-line procedure) to get it to work with my Vodafone SIM. If that one is unlocked already then even easier
Why not use your phone as a wifi hot spot, if it does that kind of thing that is.

neil - I've got the other dongle already, and it's only costing me £5 a month for 500gb, plus it's more for the little lady who's phone's PAYG, so any extra data use will probably end up costing more than the £5
