Just asking!

Every pair of jeans I buy from supermarket specials for working in to 'decent' high street - not proper posh jeans - always end up going at the crotch.

Do you posh jeans wearers have similar issues!? How hard wearing is your crotch!?

Maybe cut down on the frottaging?

Depends on the denim and the cut.  Skinnier cut and stretch denim (and also denim which is treated and 'softer') lasts less well than a looser cut and pure denim.  Also a heavier weight denim will last longer.  A lot of cheaper jeans these days are made out of paper thin denim.

I have quite few pairs of Nudie jeans but all in skinnier cuts using stretch denim.  Most of them have been for a 'free' repair at their shop over the years which prolongs the life but some have lasted longer than others.

I have a couple of pairs of Hebtroco (a 14oz and 16oz).  I fully expect them to last longer (esp the 16oz) due to the use of pure denim, the heavier fabric and the looser cut meaning less rubbing between the thighs.

Mine always go at the knees before the crotch wears out. And even then thats after years of constant wear.

I thought it was just me, the crotch is the first thing to go in all my jeans.  I wish I could say it was down to size...

Ditto mine go there too, I assumed it was down to riding bikes in them.

Levis from Costco cost the same as and last significantly longer than anything bought on the high street, which in turn last significantly longer than supermarket specials.

Son1 goes through jeans at the crotch at a ridiculous rate. I, however, have never worn out a pair at the crotch. Levis seem to last OK on him, but some have been repaired. He cycles in them a bit. Levis made some crotch reinforced commuter jeans, but now discontinued. I still have yet to wear mine out! they had reflective tape under the leg seam, only visible when you fold up the trouser leg.

Mine always go on the left knee first. Then right knee, then crotch, if I am still wearing them at that point. I don't cycle in them though.

I used to go through a pocket quite a lot when I was younger and carried more keys with me all the time, but that's no more now (only really carry one key) same as the old "Zippo ghost" hole that the small pocket used to get.

The biggest issue I have is the crotch going at the seam when I have used jeans for commuting in on the bike. Not huge thighs, Levis denim, but just a lot of cycle commuting. Certainly not frottage.

When I was doing about 8 - 10 miles a day in jeans I'd always wear them out in the sit bones area, not the crotch.  But then I do have a pretty bony arse

Same here, in cheap or posh jeans. It's usually the knees that go.

Is it something tighter jeans do? I always get regular or loose fit, to accommodate my mighty legs.

Dunno - I just buy regular fit jeans and it's always the crotch that goes. I've never worn the knees out (apart from when I was a kid!).

My Alpkit jeans have a reinforced crotch, maybe that would help?

It's the cycling. We've a tailor in town, so one pair of jeans might end up with three repairs before they're binned, but generally I'll get 1,000-2,000 km out of a pair of jeans. And it's crotch/inner thighs/arse bones areas that always go.

I don't think the OP mentioned cycling in them. I think if you have those odd weightlifter legs or are a bit overweight and your thighs rub against each other then yeah i can see why they might wear out there. In which case a heavier denim and a relaxed fit should sort you out. You may even be able to get them on the NHS 😉

It's not the cycling.

For me at least, I gave up buying decent jeans about 15 years ago, I now buy £22 next trousers and they last 3-5 months on average, but are effectively disposable (terrible environmentally yes, but is it better to spend more and still destroy trousers). I'll soon be moving back into my standard for the warmer months Volcom 'frickin' shorts.

I never cycle in jeans, I do have 'substantial' thighs though and will tear through a pair in not long enough to make it worth buying them any longer though. I'm not sure I even miss wearing jeans, I rarely had a pair that felt 'right'.

Nope - I don't ride in jeans.*

Just going to work in them and general mooching about.

(*I don't ride at all!)

When I used to wear jeans all the time, as my job involved sitting down all day, the ass was the first thing that went through, followed by the knees. I’ve never had jeans wear through the crotch, there’s several thicknesses on the seam, unless it’s the stitching that’s going.

Never wore jeans on the bike, that big lump of stitching was far too uncomfortable to ride on! I wore proper shorts for that.

It's the cycling.

Person dependent, it's absolutely nothing to do with cycling. I haven't worn a pair of trousers cycling since the 1990s, but every pair of trousers (and shorts) i've worn out has done so where my thighs rub - that includes suits, workwear, jeans, cords.

When people are saying 'crotch' I think they mean the material at the inner thighs (we've done this thread before).
