Can the hive mind help?
We're looking for a portable DVD/Video Player to keep our 20 month old amused on long car/plane journeys.
Ideally I'd like something that I can connect to with my iPhone (to play movies from there) and/or that can play DivX movies from SD cards.
Basically so I don't have to carry a big stack of scratchable DVDs around.
If it comes with a headrest mount and lighter socket power supply then all the betterer.
Philips do something that is almost right, but it gets terrible view due to dodgy viewing anagles on the screen: http://amzn.com/B0013WKFCC
Any suggestions?
Cheap android tablet + big MicroSD I reckon. You could play games etc then too
going to be tricky.
anything by Archos work for you?

Oh, and would viewing angles really matter? The child will be sat right in front of it anyway.
Won't pretty much any old car dvd player, plus a TV out cable for the iPhone do the job? Obviously you'll only be sending an SD signal out on the composite output, but it'll only be a tiny screen anyway so that won't matter.
Some of them have support for USB sticks too.
Just make sure it has composite AV input. I think most of them do, so you can plug games consoles etc. into them.
Oh and, a lot of dvd players nowadays will play divx off the dvd, meaning you could bung a load of films on one dvd and just leave that one in there.
What about an itouch? Or is that too expensive/small?
Hmm.. Android tablet or Archos.. yeah would work I guess.. ideally I'm looking for something fairly cheap in case our little cherub decides to give it a kicking halfway along the M8 😀

I didn't think they'd have Video Ins on them as standard. Would do the job nicely if they did. Even better if they just don't bother with the DVD part (what is the point these days??) and just had SD or on-board memory.

Yeah we show her Postman Pat on the iPhone sometimes and it keeps her amused, but too small at the distance of a car headrest I think.
Ah right, all the portable dvd players I've ever seen have had video in, but then that is what we've wanted them for. All these ones at Halfords are listed as having it (obviously I'd check on the manufacturer's site before buying, as Halfords aren't the most reliable).
I have 2 LCD headrests, I was surprised at how good they are! Easy to install, if you know how to install a car radio, you can even link them to display the same thing.
They play DVD's, MP3's, MP4's Avi/DivX, have USB & SD inputs.

Thanks Milkie - integrated solutions definitely look better, but we'd prefer a removable one for use on the train/plane as well.
I can seriously recommend this digital recordable free view TV
off of Amazon I use this all round the world including my parents
where ever they go.

iPad then.
Yeah could be a good excuse to buy an iPad I suppose... I was sort of holding out for a high res version of that.
