Can't help but think her coach is wholly wrong for her and does a lot to distract her focus from her technique with all this "windy" pish!!! I've been watching them do this for a few years and it makes me cringe.

Not that I'm much of a fan of hers anyway, personality failure. I think her face might break if she tries to smile.

Nice; watching her now?

To me, whilst watching, she seemed to really lack self confidence. And yes the whole coach with thewind thing unnerves her further especially when it leaves her with sub 10 seconds to start her approach.

Does seem that way but Michael Johnson obviously feels otherwise and he has more insight than us. Very hard to tell from what you see on the TV.

I couldn't help but wonder just how much impact a few tenths of mph makes to a pole vault.

The athlete should be visualising their approach, every step of the jump they're about to attempt and focussing on a little bit of of pma. The nerves can be overwhelming and any distraction amplified.

Id have to agree Dan, the possible positives of a wee bit of extra lift seem way outweighed by having to rush.

That, and he looks a total cock.

I hear she's taken you off her Christmas card list too, how about a family photo so we can all make snarky comments about you.
The problem that seems to be most in need of correcting, apart from the coach interfering too much, is her tendency to twist a bit to the side, compared to other vaulters staying completely vertical, although on that last jump she had plenty of body clearance, it was her thigh caught the bar; maybe being more vertical her legs might have been less likely to hit the bar

Could we get a run down of the pole vault PBs of the previous posters, please?

So we can't post observations unless we've actually done the sport in question now?.

Great, that'll mean there's far less of you lot commenting on mountain biking from now on.

I'm wondering what Michael Johnson's PB is if he thinks he's such an expert.

Pole vaulting was invented in Ulverston once all the Dutch people who'd been doing it for years realised the canal vaulting venue where they dropped the tiles off was an abatoir run off and toilet. True story.

You don't need to be a pole vaulter to know that she's not focusing on her jump on the runway.
