It wasn't really a surfing film to be fair, it was an unreconciled bromance between Patrick and keanu.
Its not a surfing film. Its an action film with surfing in it and its fantastic. I remember watching it for the first time in a French surf bar in Lacanau and halfway through they stopped it to let us know Ayrton Senna had died at Imola.

Quite so. I believe Bigelow saw it as the male equivalent of the sismance (I know thats not a word) of the Piano Player.
