What would you say is a reasonable charge for a day of plumbing work? Near Manchester if that makes a difference

Plumbers charge what they want, you might get a day rate but the final bill might be a bit more inflated than first thought, all depends what your having done, new work or rectifying old work?

It should make a difference to the £200 plus, you would pay in Surrey.

In other words your better off getting a price.

I'd never go by day rate, get a fixed price if possible. You both know where you stand that way. Paying by the day doesn't encourage progress if you know what I mean.

I'd certainly not pay a plumber to tile by a day rate. Tilers will be approx £25-30/m2 as a guide.

Sorry should have been clearer - it's a fixed price which includes 2 days of labour @ £300

That's what I thought - just debating whether to get a 2nd quote but probably won't bother

Sounds fair, man has to live, trades are starting to earn good money again now,I've started to charge a bit more now because I've realised I have far better buisiness/customer care ethics than a lot of other trades in my area, iff he does a good job then you have yourself a plumber,if he wants to charge a bit more in future then you will be safe in the knowledge that he's of a good sort.
