I've replaced a washer in my tap 4 times now and each time after about a month it starts dripping again because the rubber washer becomes distorted. Is there another type of washer I should be using. The child in Homebase couldn't figure it out. :o(

You need a tap reseating tool to scrape the inside of the tap where the washer goes and seats itself.

You get flat washers and delta washers. Sometimes it is best/easiest to change the tap. Most customers think it is a money making thing, but they don't make taps like they used to.

And if you are buying new tap get one with a ceramic cartridge.

Quarter turn and no washers to replace in the future.
