hi all,

http://www.rspb.org.uk/supporting/campaigns/campaignwithus/current/defra_backoff.aspx

I am a passionate photographer and I love seeing Raptors / Birds of prey whilst outdoors either hiking or biking - in the light of recent poisonings and other illegal killings can I please ask my fellow STWers to read this and write to their MP.

I am sick and tired of reading about and even finding dead birds of prey out on the trails - I am not a fan of game shooting but I appreciate the money involved and the associated influence this has in the powers that be etc but surely killing raptors is a joke when cars and even lyme disease affects the game birds population far more.

I hardly see a raptor in some parts of the country ( bowland )and others ( eg powys ) I see loads - I wonder why - surely the shooting estates have something to do with this maybe?

Anyways - I would like things to change. Better management needs to be forced by public action. Thanks for reading.

Paul

Tricky one.
However instinctively I don't support the RSPBs stance on this because they're quite happy to cull other breeds of birds they don't like.

Fortunately attitudes are slowly changing

It is an awful crime - raptors continue to be routinely killed by some shooting estates.

If you find a raptor corpse report it - its a crime taken more seriously now

I am not a huge fan of the RSPB at times but they are big enough and well known enough to try and bring this to public attention - not enough people are aware of this

Thanks TJ - already do. Glad that the scots are beginning to penalise financially those found culpable

anyways

thanks

IIRC one of the sporting estates with a bad rep in this area lost al its EU grants over it
