Was thinking of getting one just for occasional games and for watching internet tv

anyone know if they can play iplayer, youtube etc?

also there seems to be different models

12GB, 500GB, 160HDD, 320HDD

any difference in functionality, or is it just storage space?

just storage space, i have the 40gb its okay just delete stuff every now and then...
functionality is exactly the same
BBC iplayer with some programs in 720p (really good)
the HDD is replaceable, so you can get upto 500gb just make sure its compatible first
good for watching films (blu-ray thingy)

I would say the cheapest one

iPlayer works fine. Youtube is there but works terribly - there is a dedicated app coming which I believe you can get if you set up a US account, which looks much better.

Basic 12gb will be fine, and it's straightforward to add any 2.5" (laptop size) SATA hard disk if you needed more later on.

Anyone know if the PS3 4oD player will ever get sorted? A complete dog I find, or is it just me?

12gb is a waste of time unless you upgrade it with a bigger HD.

Open the 4od app then press select and save as a bookmark. Close the app and then launch the browser and select the 4od bookmark.

This uses the updated browser while the app uses the old, unstable one apparently.

POSTED 47 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

You can just use a USB hard drive, can't you?

No, you can't use a USB drive as if it were the internal one. Game saves, purchases etc have to go on the internal disk which is locked to that specific PS3/DRM. External for playing media (films etc) or backin up entire drive.

Even if you could it demonstrates the problem.

I've got a 120gb which I have had for over 2 years.

Ive got a 500gb external HDD which is full of movies, TV series that I use via the usb port in the front.

buy the Bluetooth remote its a lot better than using the controller.

You can use the US youtube app by opening a second PSN login with a US address. Works great you can control it from your smart phone (browse on your smartphone and it appears on your TV - magic! :D)

The iPlayer APP is fine. It looks on the surface like the Panasonic one on my TV. I can't get the iPlayer through the BBC website on the browser to work though. It requires flash to be upgraded. Everytime I try to upgrade it crashes the PS3.

My broadband speed is not great making streaming a bit stop-start. I was hoping to be able to use the browser and download the programs from iPlayer. Does anyone know of a work round for the flash upgrade?

I'm also contemplating fibre optic broadband, so the streaming issue won't be an issue.

My TV supports HDMI control (pause, fast forward etc of video sources), and the PS3 apparently does too, but they don't work together for some reason.

I think it's called bravia sync? It was available since the slim 2nd version ps3 and I think only works with Sony bravia tv's

Its not on my 1st version 80gb version but is on my slim 120gb anyway.

"bravia sync" is just Sony's brand name for CEC. They should all be compatible (Viera Link, Regza Link et al).

I got the 12GB for £119 from HMV and stuck in a 1TB hard drive I had laying around.

The ps3 formats the hard drive and copies the 12GB system files over.

Easy as that.
