MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Just to give you all a heads up on this. If you get an email from play confirming that youve ordered a hitachi hard drive and logitech web cam dont open the reciept. Got an email this morning confirming an order I hadnt made, 1st thought was to look at the invoice but i noticed it's an .exe file so i didnt open it. Spoke to all my credit card providers who confirmed I havent been charged but this is a scam to get you to open the reciept, its a fishing scam...
I got one of those too.
ahh you saved me from posting this. I also called round all my credit card companies to check no payments have been made. Quite spooky as they had my name exactly how it is on my cards. No attached file for me (gmail).
This is the email:

Thank you for shopping at Play.com!
all links go to some other site 'iafrica' but the from email is spoofed and shows up as do-not-reply@play.com
Assume one of you sent it onto them for reference? Might as well make them aware of it too.
they already are aware..
Yep, I got the same email this morning. Exactly the same text, and links all going to the 'iafrica.com' site.
I got that too this morning. Opened it without thinking 🙁
running antivirus thingy now.
I was on hold at Play for ages to speak to them but gave up. Sent details of it to them.
I heard you only get that email from surfing animal porn sites?
And me, exactly as above, not opened the link though. Shades of CRC scam?
I had one too. Went to report it on Play.com's web site but couldn't find an email address, even tho it says in the 'Help' section to do so. 🙄
That's eased my mind.
I got one this morning.
The reciept link took me to iafrica.com which got alarm bells going.
I got one pretty much at the same time I got an email for a real order I placed. Was quite surprised for a bit until I saw where the email came from.
I'm not alone then.
Having just paid for something else, it gave me a slight scare...

Must be more complicated than that - I'm still clear so far
i got it this morning too! was very confused as i rarely order anything from them
Didn't they send an email out a few months back, mentioning they had lost some clients details or similar? Might be something do do with that. Also had an email this morning....
yep just got the exact same email cheers for that!
Mr Fluffykittens got the same email this morning, and from the email address and name on it I'm fairly sure that the details were got from Chain Reaction, potentially during the scam that occurred during February this year. I suspect that whoever did the initial scam sold the list of email addresses & names to another scammer.
Just got that email, deleted without opening it. Do I need to contact my bank? Got hit by crc scam earlier in the year and have a new bank card now.
Another here too. I was wondering which of my sons could afford to be spending that amount on PC upgrades 😆
yeh, i got one as well, i rang the bank and he said they'd had hundreds ringing this morning with the same thing and it was probably a fishing scam.
Shoot! was looking forward to the hard drive and sticking the ultra vision x-ray goggle things on ebay.
I got hit as well. The layout of the name on the card matched a card I don't use very often. Oddly enough, last time I used that card was the great CRC scam.
I got this scam too.. bastards
I got one as well. F*cktards.
Me too (+ got CRCed earlier this year)
Well no card details listed for me and no sign of any payments on any of my cards so I am guessing it is nothing too much to worry about.
Looks like either the name and email information came from a Play leak or maybe an aftershock of the CRC leak? If the latter can I have another £30 voucher - came in handy 😀
I don't have a play.com account. I do/did have a CRC one though...
I've just received the exact same mail and I don't have a Play.com account.
Got scammed £4.5k in two transactions in the CRC scam in February luckily for me Egg honoured it and credited me back but not before I had a very tense few days!!!
i thought i'd ordered something while pissed at first.
I suspect that whoever did the initial scam sold the list of email addresses and names to another scammer
What's the world coming to when you can't rely of thieves to keep your details safe.
No email for me. Just one from Halifax Bank, reminding me that I am a valued customer and could I please click on this link.
has same email, but deleted it as I knew I hadn't made an order so automatically put it down to being a scam.
had an email too. Never used play. Had the CRC problem though.
Also had the email, also never used Play, also got CRC'd
Hmmm
I got the email today as well. I accidentally clicked the link as my wife has just left me and has been buying stuff online before she buggered off. Spent most of the afternoon running antivirus to get it off! I was a victim of the CRC scam with the vouchers as well! AVG antivirus remove if for me!
I have put the word out on Twitter to see if anyone else has a link between CRC Scam and Play.com.
me too am running virus scan as i type
Me too, I got the same one. Reckon I am probably ok though, after the CRC problem I changed my CC just to be safe, and havent used it online anywhere since
I didn't get this scam email - which is a surprise, seeing as bloody Play.com spams me approximately every 7 hours. When you click on their "unsubscribe" link, it takes you to a signin page. I don't have my username and password because I haven't ordered anything in years from them. Spankers.
Anyway my point is that this suggests the email didn't emerge from Play.com's records. I used to have a CRC account but haven't used it in 4 years or so.
Its ironic how there are CRC adverts on the page (well for me anyway).
I got it too. Pretty sure it's the CRC thing as I don't have an account with play at the email account I received the email to.
I am sure this will be dilligently investigated and reported by the team at Singletrack Towers and a timely and accurate statement of what has happened and acceptance of blame will appear here from CRC, who will put a warning on the home page of their website to protect their customers whose security they value so highly...
And that a team of flying pigs are about to go past.
I received the same scam email yesterday. I wasn't aware of the ChainReaction issue earlier this year. However, I am sure it is related to that as I use a different email address for each online supplier I use - and the address on this email is the one that I exclusively use for Chainreation orders.....
Hello! I received this email also. I do not know how I was targeted since I am not a customer of ChainReaction or Play.com. I do not have an account set up at either website. I wonder if the cause of all this will ever be discovered.
Bet the info came from CRC's database. The Young Lady in Grey (Fuffykittens (FFS)) ordered some stuff for me from there for me when I was away and set the email to my in-box for the order confirmation etc. The Play.com scam was to my email under her name.
+1 for receiving the email too.
