Does this contain anything nasty like asbestos, or is it just some sort of fibre board? Had to pull it out of my bathroom today doing some alterations and plenty of dust about. Cheers.

hmmmm up until the 90's asbestos was in all sorts of materials, only sure way to tell is bulk analysis which would cost you about 40 quid at a asbestos analysts. To be honest it's too late now so why worry about it, you'll find out in about 30 years if you get mesotheloima. 😀

When I find something I think may have asbestos in I use this company...

http://cavendishlaboratories.co.uk/

Double bag the item you want checked, pop it in the post to them with a covering letter and a cheque for around £10 (Phone and check first). They normally phone with the result then send a letter confirming the result later. Very professional and quick...popped a bit of tile in for testing the other day and they contacted me next day! Worth paying for the peace of mind imo.

as tazzymtb says it is too late now as any fibres will have already been breathed in.

+1 Leadbasher, looks like Aquaboard, bit like a crumbly concrete board with mesh in it. The concrete stuff sometime looks abit like its got a quartzy type material in it.

Stable when wet unlike plasterboard

Cheers guys, it's got the quartzy look to it so hopefully that's it. Presume it's safe then? Is it ok to take to a normal dump?

Given how expensive it is, can't you re-use it under the [assumed] new tiles?

I am a plasterer (thank goodness, nearly lapsed) you are fine.It was popular in the 70/80's but has now died a death. As stated is better than p'board in the wet.Heavy mind.So just the exfoliated vermiculite dust to worry about... 😈
