I think I may have been the victim of a bit of false description bad seller.

I'm not going to say who or where but I've bought a bike carrier 2nd hand and it seems the description may have been wrong.

I've paid PP gift so not much come back, I know, I know!

The ad said the bike carrier would hold 4 bikes but I can only get 2 on maximum and I've tried every which way.

It's also not very stable on the back of our Honda.

Seller says I can post it back at my cost for a refund but it weighs so much that the postage is more than it's worth.

Not sure what to do. Name, names?? or suck it up and put it down to experience.

If it's sold as a 4 bike rack then it's not the sellers fault?

Have popped out to the work car park and taken a photo.

I'm furious if I'm honest and wish I hadn't bought it

Rear bike carriers are a bit of a minefield especially this type, they are almost all a bit crap, and you need to do your homework on which one fits your car best. I guess you have tried a few combinations to get on the back of your CRV, but that pic looks way wrong.

EDIT: that Zimmer frame is ace 😀

EDIT 2 : Well Done OP 😳

If it's anything like my Rhode Gear rack, usual capacity is more like 3 bikes for starters;

ah... I see.

You need to start a website about the seller. Maybe document your court case against them on there. Then come back on here and attempt to get stw behind you. Seems to be a proven plan of attack. 😀

Perhaps you could try it on the car next to yours and see what happens - I assume you have 4 bikes at work though as i imagine its a very bike friendly place you work what with all the 4x4's.

Not sure I get your point!

The Honda is part time 4wd so mainly 2wd
Next to it is Steve's S-Max and he has 6 kids so needs it
The MDs Audi is the white one and nothing to do with me

Pretty certain that's not meant to go on the spare wheel, it's supposed to be on the rear windscreen of a hatchback. Spare tyre racks are different.

Try turning the car on to it's roof, may work better....

I could not tell if it was an Audi or a Skoda I apologise for that and I assume all big cars are 4 x 4 's and for show as a real person would have a landy clearly.

I was wondering if the absence of a spare wheel altered the angle of the v so the bar was sort of perpendicular to the road- though it would then be quite low I assumed so wheels may catch and bigger ones [ 29 er]more likely. Perhaps a fat bike could absorb the shock of skimming - do you have one?
Ie try it on another car and see if it works as dont you need spare wheel specific ones - perhaps lend it him as surely his 6 kids - do kids still ride bikes these days? - have some bikes between them?
The bar looks long enough for four but clearly at that angle it is all wrong.

Decided gonna sell the Honda and see if it fits another car.

What car is it designed for, if I can work that out and swap the Honda then maybe it will work better.

There may be an easier fix could you not swap cars with steve and he sell some kids/you adopt? It's about as easy as your solution.
Perhaps the MD but that depends on whether white is your colour

I've emailed the seller this thread.

They have told me it's fitted wrong and should be the other way round,

I've been outside and tried it the other way round and it fits much better and I can now get 4 bikes on it.

The problem now is because it' s on the bonnet I can 't see too well out of the front

Put it on the bonnet and see if it fits?
(Or turn it the right way up)

I have a 4 bike rack (hanging type) and I have to be quite creative when getting 4 bikes on it.

I ended up getting a 4 bike towbar track (which is still a squeeze)

Just looking at the photo I can see its in the wrong place, and upside-down.
The foam padding should be at the top of the rear window, and at the bottom; it's quite clearly never, ever intended to fit over a spare wheel. Even I can work that out, and oim fick, oi is!

Looks upside down to me. Some racks are designed to clamp around the rear wheel of a 4x4. The arms should then be straight out. That's how you get four bikes on.

BTW, no way would I fit four bikes on that rack. I have a dedicated roof rack on my CRV with 4x Thule 591's. That's how you carry bikes. You can also fit a towball and swan neck extended rack (but the door makes it impractical).

Gosh, the answer is so obvious. Are you a bit thick? Clearly you just have to drive in reverse. I suppose it might help to get a kit to fit that spare tyre to the bonnet to improve your view out of the back. Or you could always get Steve to look after it for you when he hasn't got the kids. He doesn't bring the kids to work does he? I'd be a bit worried if he did - I mean they could cause all sorts of hazards for somebody driving around in reverse with bikes on the bonnet.
