... how often etc - same as the sports massage thread.
An extra question in this one though. See if they give you exercises to do: Do you do them as prescribed and if not why not?
Every 4-6 weeks atm to free everything up. Was every week straight after my accident 19 months ago. Exercises tick.
if they solve the problem then you shouldn't need to go back!
i went to 2, one with a good reputation but known to be expensive, initial assessment did not specifically diagnose the problem and was asked to return again 'to work on the problem over several sessions' and to have a bikefit with them (£200) but was only given 1 simple exercise to do.
had better luck at the second physio who immediately saw what the problem was and actually explained it in layman's terms and how to treat it, produced a more thorough exercise program and didn't give me the hard sell about how many times i would need to come back.
i didn't need to go back because over a couple of weeks the injury responded to all the changes. best £45 i spent on something for cycling. the first physio was £75.
for those in the big smoke i recommend crystal palace sports injury clinic
When something goes wrong that hasn't before, roughly every 18 months or so.
I'll do most of the exercises but not all, because sometimes I feel that the pyhsio has given a list of things to do so as to give value for money, and although they are all no doubt beneficial they are also mind numbingly boring. Also occasionally some strengthening exercises feel superflous as you can feel the area being targeted already has more strength than the exercise is meant to improve. I also work on the principle that the pyhsio knows that people don't do half the exercises they prescribe, so therefore set a higher number knowing a lesser percentage will be actually done by a client.
Only ever used the NHS ones and as above some are utterly crap, others are worth their weight in gold.
Either try and get appointments at physio clinics rather than the physio that might be attached to your GP surgery, and the ones in hospitals are ace.
now that I'm not a student I'd probably pay for it rather than wait 2 months for an appointment.
yep i have to carry on with my excerise for my shoulder....i had physio and accupuncture... had the accupuncture for 5 weeks then she said 'right thats it now you dont need anymore treatment ??.... it was ok wen i had it done for a week then the pain would sneek in agin, they told me to use a sock in a ball and lean against a flat wall and press and roll the ball into my shoulder for about 8 mins a day.. sometimes tho the pain is on the top of my shoulder ,,,, how did they decide i had had enough of accupuncture anyway ???? wasnt too happy with their attitude either.. not my fault if they are busy...it was like i was an extra burden to them on the N.H S. ..wierd...
lol you were lucky 3 months wait.... mine was almost 3 months, then wen the doc rang through-i wasnt even on their list ? n.h.s cock-up agin so they had to quickly find a space to get me an appointment..lol
2 months for you sorry...lol
