Whats good these days? I've used photoshop elements a bit a few years back. Whats good, and cheap.
For Windows? paint.net is free and quite good for basic/moderate photo editing.
Pixelmator worth a gander if you're on a mac.
GIMP Another option, available for Mac and Windows.
I use Picnik, easy and powerful.

Lightroom 3 currently a few pence under 118 quid on Amazon or if not try Elements 9
Lightroom 3 or elements are definitely the best without spending a fortune
Is elements any better than GIMP?
Irfan view was what I used before I learnt how to use the camera. 😉
Interesting tags! 😕
For free definitely GIMP if you're a tinkerer and don't mind a learning curve, and www.pixlr.com for more straightforward stuff.
slainte 😀 rob
It's been discussed a few times here but this is not a bad version of the discussion:

If you shoot in raw, then Rawtherapee is very good for a free program. Not as powerful as others but certainly is worthwhile having to tinker with until you wish to upgrade to something more expensive.
Edit; can be used for jpegs too but really excels in Raw format.
+1 for gimp (+ ufraw if you shoot raw)
As mentioned there is a steep learning curve but masses of support on t'interweb as well as tutorials galore including YouTube vids for most major actions (plus new plug ins being dev'd all the time).
Elements is fine and easier to learn but you pay for that with £'s and lack of advanced options.
