Whats good these days? I've used photoshop elements a bit a few years back. Whats good, and cheap.

For Windows? [url= http://www.getpaint.net/ ]paint.net[/url] is free and quite good for basic/moderate photo editing.

Lightroom 3 currently a few pence under 118 quid on Amazon or if not try Elements 9

Lightroom 3 or elements are definitely the best without spending a fortune

For free definitely GIMP if you're a tinkerer and don't mind a learning curve, and www.pixlr.com for more straightforward stuff.

If you shoot in raw, then [url= http://www.rawtherapee.com/ ]Rawtherapee[/url] is very good for a free program. Not as powerful as others but certainly is worthwhile having to tinker with until you wish to upgrade to something more expensive.

Edit; can be used for jpegs too but really excels in Raw format.

+1 for gimp (+ ufraw if you shoot raw)
As mentioned there is a steep learning curve but masses of support on t'interweb as well as tutorials galore including YouTube vids for most major actions (plus new plug ins being dev'd all the time).

Elements is fine and easier to learn but you pay for that with £'s and lack of advanced options.
