I use Google maps almost exclusively now on my phone for car Nav. since my sat nav died a good while ago.
An ad popped up and reminded me off Tom Tom....
Any advantages of buying the Tom Tom Go Ap for phone use?
Having current live speed is useful- sort off but lived without it for a while now.
This is not on Google maps navigation.
Anyone use the Go App?
Just seems another expense for not much advantage.
I get my current speed showing when using Google for navigation
But not if it's not navigating.
Waze shows your speed all the time, plus it also warns you of upcoming "hazards" (🚔) even when just driving around with no set navigation.
Doesn't seem to show traffic as well as Google though.... So I alternate between the two. I see zero need for anything else.
I don't think you get speed if using Android Auto whereas you do if just using your phone
Use to use CoPilot on the phone (especially abroad - US, Canada, etc) but since they allowed caching areas/routes within Google Maps I had no reason to keep the other apps and stick with Google.
We just use Google maps, more than good enough for our needs.
I'm probably very much in the minority, but I very much think you get what you pay for when it comes to TomTom versus the rest.
Having played around with others I think TomTom Go is way more responsive when it comes at re-routing around traffic - which is my number one priority in a sat nav. I also really like the route summary bar on the side for seeing traffic build up and fuel/rest stops along the way. At £30 a year to cover both my phone and my wife's phone, it's a no brainer. I wish it had feature parity with the Tomtom hardware which it doesn't quite still (no fuel price data for instance).
In my testing Waze was the next best performer, but I find the interface a bit childish and naff.
Google maps, works with Android Auto better the TomTom.
Google maps as it integrates nicely with Android auto, so I can do the split screen thing and have my book/music as well.
It also will read incoming messages but I've never felt the need as if I'm driving they can wait.
I’ve been using TomTom Go for eight or nine years, I used to use Here, Navmii and CoPilot, but my team leader when I was working for BCA kept nagging me about my satnav not matching his, so I started using TomTom and I’ve been using it since. It gives me regular updates as part of my subscription, the map app works really well with Car Play, it’ll show an alternative route if one’s available, and the maps are nice and clear on my Ford’s centre screen, with either full screen or split screen.
I’ve never got on with Google’s mapping in the car, and because I’ve been using TomTom for so long, I’ve never seen any need to try Apple Maps, and I’ve never been able to update the installed mapping software in my Ford’s system.
