That sportstracker app that was a bit of a Nokia-only gem has just been released for Android. I would rate it higher than endomondo and mapmyride.

So close to magic its makers would have been burned as witches not very long ago.

Minicon is cool for making teeny icons with no text under them.
Another vote for 3G Watchdog if you're on a capped data tariff. Wouldn't bother with task killer apps though.

Don't bother with this. Android's memory management/process model is completely different to a normal computers. This app is not required, and wastes battery by waking the CPU up to check what's running.

A couple of alarm apps: White Noise Lite, to wake you gently with sounds of the sea...or Good Morning, which speaks the time, gives you a weather update, reminds you of calendar events, and will speak any text you drunkenly enter the night before. Mrs rogg won't let me use that any more.

Generally, they cause more problems than they solve.

Hmmm no problems with it on mine with gingerbread.

Doesn't show up in the battery usage stats either (or is that a different process?)

Oh yeah, +1 for Dolphin HD. Great features and interface.

SWYPE - crazy swipey keyboard thing, saves time when it gets it right, which is mostly.

Endomondo users, do you find that the data collected from your phone is accurate?. A couple of people have told me the data is often completely wrong from a phone, they've gone back to proper GPS.

Never noticed a problem myself.

Some of the older handsets had poxy GPS receivers though (did they ever fix the Galaxy S?) so it could be that rather than an inherent problem with the app.

Endomondo is ok on my HTC Desire, it cuts corners though and tends to read about 1-2 miles less than what you have actually ridden.

I tried Endomondo on my Desire. It was rubbish, even though I tried it round Rutland Water, which is mainly open.

My Tracks on the other hand is great. Never has gaps in the trace, even through the multitude of tree-covered singletrack at Thetford.

It's odd really, as I would have thought that the ability to keep GPS tracking would be down to the phone rather than the app.
