I'm due my upgrade soon. So looking at phones.
At the moment I'm on my second android phone. First was a G1 now on a sony xperia x10 decided I don't like android. So thats a no. Not fussed on apple products (although for mp3's iphone will be difficult to beat). Need a decent camera and proper internet browsing. Any suggestions?
Bay a camera and a laptop?
If you want a decent camera I'd say look at sony ericsons (the last one I had had reasonable interface for mp3 as well), although the new iPhone camera is supposed to be a bit better than the old ones.
Has the signal problem been sorted in iphone though?
"proper" internet browsing means iPhone, Android or Maemo. Nothing else comes close to their browsers.
So ruling out Android phones*, N900 or iPhone 4, take your pick. If the thought of an Xterm excites you, choose the N900, if you've no idea what I'm on about choose the iPhone.
Or relax your requirements....
*if you require a good camera that rules out android phones anyhow.
HD2 - okay it's WinMo but it's highly customisable and has a surprisingly good 5mb camera and video recorder, plus the default MP3 app is excellent too.
Do a YouTube for HD2 reviews.
I've got mine set up how I want it and prefer it to my ex-Hero (mainly because it's super fast and just "better).

Wrong. You're talking about OS - try including browsers, e.g. Opera 9.X and Skyfire.
I like the look of the N900 but whats Xterm? The X10 I got at the moment has an 8mp camera which is good and the OH's W995 has the same camera but I don't like that either. Its a bit slow.
I did consider the HD2 but Tmobile have withdrawn them from sale 🙁 Think its discontinued.
Trouble with phone cameras is that the pixel count becomes a selling war, losing sight of the fact that once you get over 5mp it becomes largely irrelevant anyway, due to the size of the lens and sensor. Video is another thing, the iPhone has a pretty good video capability, although I haven't had an opportunity to play with it yet, and iMovie is available to edit in the phone before uploading direct to YouTube. Personally, the camera alone is worth the upgrade, although the glass back is much better than the plastic. Regarding the antenna issue, I've not noticed any issues with mine, but then I don't make many calls, and when I'm holding the phone to my ear the screen goes black and I can't see the signal strength bars anyway. To be on the safe side I stuck a strip of clear Cellotape along the metal frame covering the joint in the sections, and I've got a Griffin case with a clear back on it anyway just to avoid chipping the glass by knocking it against something hard when putting it down; makes it a bit easier to grip as well. I have noticed that when listening to streaming radio the 4G seems to hold the signal better without buffering all the time, even when the 3G signal is showing no bars at all. The GPS is certainly much better at acquiring the satellites and quicker too, it'll show the phone as being at my home address even when I'm sitting indoors; my old 3G showed it nearly half a mile away when sat indoors.

Opera mini beats most native browsers I've seen, and you can install that on most phones so really you've got loads of choice.
Find one with a decent camera, decent sized screen and download opera mini and you're sorted
